Thanks! It's mildly amusing, but a good sign, that as the several prospects have gone dim, I nevertheless find another position to apply to. As Fats Waller had it: "One never knows, do one?" I've been fending off a cold, too, and and my recovery arc looks to permit me to enjoy human society tomorrow.

Are you feeling about 95% back to normal Karl?

Yes, thanks. Had a good Henning Ensemble rehearsal this morning. I pretty much had steam enough for the work.

Good progress on the whole program. The one piece needing a good slap yet is the Westby. It's a lovely piece, but the writing poses challenges greater for the two lower instruments than for the flutes. We keep making progress, and we'll get there. To my great pleasure, and mild surprise, we were able quite easily to find three more rehearsals before the concert, so spirits are high.

Karl, where and when is the performance?

Quote from: Karl Henning on October 17, 2024, 04:59:26 PMThanks! This is the most trouble I've had finding a job since I was fresh out of high school. Which means I've pretty much had it good most of my life.

Hi Karl!

You remind me of my periods of unemployment during my 50 + teaching career.

Since I wanted to teach mainly in Catholic high schools, I had to go to the library for a National Catholic Directory, and write to schools somewhat at random to inquire about an opening.  Long-hand penmanship, envelopes, and many stamps.

Otherwise, I would visit local universities for postings of teaching positions throughout the state and country.

My last position was the only one found via the Internet, in 2007, on the website of a Catholic diocese.

No "artificial intelligence" interviews!

And I despise the term: there is nothing "intelligent" about "artificial intelligence."  As my Mathematician-Computer Scientist son will verify, it is just programming, very sophisticated programming, but programming nonetheless.  😇

Listening now! Only a few minutes in - interesting the bits early on when the clarinet is played one-handed. Is that common, and I have just never noticed before?

Love the black and white photography, by the way.  :)

Yesterday I got a call from the interviewee I felt very positive about. They've decided that as they have divided the previous admin's tasks around the office, "they've decided not to fill the position." So it isn't that they didn't select me, but that they liquidated the position. Here, now, is a chap right back to Square One.

Good news, though fully expected. Background: my stroke was the matter of a tear in the carotid arterial wall, a resulting blood clot, and the clot traveling up to the brain. The immediate emergency treatment was installation of a stent in the artery. Since then, I've had periodic ultrasounds to observe the stent and make certain that the blood flows freely. The doctor just called to say that everything looks good and that, as it's been years of satisfactory observation, there's no need for future ultrasound exams.

That must be a relief!  Excellent news!

Three positions to which I had applied on Indeed, and from which I had heard nothing, have all been stealth-withdrawn by the prospective employers. Well, part of my learning curve, I suppose.
