Quote from: Cato on December 12, 2024, 10:06:54 AMAnother fun piece from Karl: the clarinets in the treble play a jaunty, Big-Band tune in an attempt to summon up some happiness from those cheerless voices in the bass!    8)

Some more comments, which I sent to Karl earlier, about his clarinet-orchestra work.

"What a depiction of the Id versus the the Ego and Superego! 😎🥳

The id-basses, preferring their growling and threatening caverns, refuse to accept the spritely* levity of the treble clarinets dancing around in the neck of the bottle and maybe even escaping!

Another fun work: nice jazzy, Benny Goodmanesque theme for the treble clarinets!
"

(Download the work and enjoy this sparkling miniature of surprises!)

* Given that the word comes from "sprite," I see no reason to use "sprightly," no matter what the dictionaries want!  ;D

Those who called for the low clarinet choir piece also call for brass choir scores. Part of my dream last night was working on a piece to submit. So naturally, I am wondering: shall I try to chop out a fanfare today and tomorrow? I think I just might. I'm at a Caffè Nero just now, waiting for Masha & Mom to wind up their shopping. But when I get home, I'll start slapping notes around.

Separately, I loved a fellow composer's mini-rant on FB today:

People are entitled to their opinions, but when certain self-proclaimed 'radicals' persist with the tired and outmoded rhetoric that 'tonal melodies have not been allowed in new music for the past fifty years', I can't help but roll my eyes.

I mean, what is there to vindicate when there's nothing that needs vindicating? Give it a rest! 😮💨

Incidentally, I couldn't ask for a better place to hang out than Caffè Nero.
Also, for the brass choir piece I already have a title which amuses me awfully.

Quote from: Karl Henning on December 12, 2024, 11:43:26 AMWell, the A Cappella Singers chose another candidate. Probably just as well. Natick is outside the service area of The Ride, so the Ubers there and back were on my dime, and would have made a dent in my earnings from the gig.
Well, something better will come along.  :)

Quote from: Karl Henning on December 03, 2024, 11:53:55 AMVery interestingly, word comes in of a Music Director position. I've submitted my CV. We shall see.
Hain't heard a peep from these folks, not even though I reached out with a short follow-up message. Could indicate they're people I don't want to work with?

Karl,

Any new job prospects?  Or do you think that it will be pretty quiet 'til post-New Year's Day?

I'll have a look, but yes, I expect the non-seasonal job market to be quiet for a few weeks. Will report.

We were hoping so, but Maria has a meeting which has come up and needs to head back south. However, my physical therapist has a good sense of how to treat Mom's back, so the ladies will return to Massachusetts not long after New Year's Day so that Mamochka can continue the treatment.

Augh!  Hope that you will then be with friends or other family then.
