Quote from: Der lächelnde Schatten on February 11, 2025, 08:59:50 PMI loved what I heard so far. Herreweghe's conducting has always impressed me. Good to know that you also have responded favorably to several of his Bach recordings. Out of curiosity, what some of your other favorite Bach cantata recordings?

I LOVE that CD! Ich habe genug is a particularly moving recording.  I had hoped to see her in concert, but sadly she died of cancer some months(?) before hand.

Okay, another Bach purchase (hat-tip to @JBS):

For the record, I also love Lorraine Hunt Lieberson. I have a recording of her performing Handel arias and Berlioz's Les nuits d'été that is just exquisite.

I have a handful of her CDs and treasure them.  Hope that you enjoy the Bach.   :)

Quote from: Der lächelnde Schatten on February 11, 2025, 06:42:10 PMWell, folks...I had a slip-up and here's what I bought --- Herreweghe's Bach on Harmonia Mundi (27 CDs):

I didn't want the cheap reissue box set from Harmonia Mundi, so I tracked down a seller on eBay who was selling these particular reissues as a bundle, so I jumped on it. These are the deluxe hardcover iterations that were released I believe in 2010 (?).

Herreweghe is one of my favorite conductors in choral works and I sampled some of these recordings via Spotify and was amazed by them. I now own the Suzuki set on BIS and these, so I think I'm good on Bach's vocal music. I wanted a nice contrast with Suzuki and I was looking at Koopman on Challenge Records, but his approach is similar to Suzuki's and I didn't want 'more of the same'. Anyway, I'm thrilled with his purchase.

Agreed, he should ;D  ;D

Most of recordings from the Gothic Voices are worth acquiring. That's why I all bought them in a Hyperion sale Aeons ago. I paid 3,99 euros a piece! ;D

Now take a deep breath and hit pause.  You can do it!  ;)  :)

I'll have to see if I can find a way to listen to that online; it sounds intriguing.

Now when I looked at this thread this morning there was also a $400 Complete Handel Oratorios in your post (at which I looked enviously).  Is there something you're not telling us?

Oh, I paid much less than that for this set. I bought my copy used via a seller on Discogs. It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't completely ridiculous either.

Oh, well done.  That was the Amazon price I was quoting.  Even more envious now.

Yeah, some of those Amazon MP sellers are clearly bonkers. ;D
