@hopefullytrusting, out of curiosity, are the purchases you're making CDs or digital downloads?

Currently, nearly all of them are digital - I'm trying to minimize how much stuff I have, so the only physical media I purchase are books I need to read that haven't been digitized and movies (because I don't have efficient digital storage for that, yet).

It is very rare for me to not be able to find the music I want to listen to digitally.

Sounds completely sensible to me unlike my own CD hoarding. I really ought to take a clue from you and others.

Oh dear...my Bach craziness has caught up with me again (w/ some Biber thrown in for good measure):

I just wanted to point out that I got all these Bach Gardiner and Biber recordings for between $4 and $10. The majority of them were purchased from a seller I've used many time via Discogs who operates from Canada. His classical CD inventory is massive --- thousands and thousands of recordings.

For anyone interested, here's his inventory of classical recordings via Discogs:

https://www.discogs.com/seller/Biz-arts/profile?genre=Classical

His shipping prices appear to be steep on first-glance, but when you buy multiple recordings from him, you're essentially paying a flat-fee.

The Chopin Project claims that the cello was Chopin's favourite instrument.

I'd like some citations that demonstrate it wasn't his SECOND-favourite...

I know, but remember I'm such an odd guy. ;D

It wouldn't surprise me if that was the case.

I think having a deftness and proclivity for one thing can definitely drag down your appreciation of it.

I imagine he was also concerned with money, and popping out his little pianistic ditties might have simply been a reflection his base-root capitalistic drive to not starve in the streets.

In truth, I assume that every composer's favorite instrument is the trombone, but the audience simply has not caught up to that fact, so they continue to bandy and prattle to the aesthetic sentiments of the lowest common denominator! :o

Hmm. While the piano undoubtedly had a fair bit of popularity, most other composers managed to add other instruments a little more often than Chopin did.

As for the trombone, I think Holmboe might have been quite fond of it...

I'll most definitely have to start doing some culling in the near future. ;)

I love the covers from that series, @Der lächelnde Schatten :) (music is also excellent, but that goes without saying)

Well, my Handelitis has acted up yet again --- all of these CDs were bought for around $5-$8 for each:

I could've bought Pinnock's Messiah for a similar price, but I already own in Handel The Great Oratorios Decca box. I also realize I could've just bought the Handel Pinnock set, but if I can find the original releases for a great price, I prefer to have them for their original cover art and liner notes.

Yes, indeed. Lovely paintings, but another reason as to why I made these purchases was I wanted an alternative to the Marriner recordings (which I have in the newly issued Handel Marriner Decca Eloquence box set). I've been looking at these Pinnock recordings for quite some time. In fact, in the beginning of my classical listening, I could've easily bought them all, but for whatever reason I only paid real attention to the Italian Baroque masters like Corelli and Vivaldi and ignored Bach and Handel, which, as I'm finding out, was a huge error on my part. Such glorious music!

Again a excellent choice. I have all those recordings. Had them for a long long time, so all originals.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

I'm not sure where we find information about appropriate treatment for that.
