Quote from: Number Six on March 02, 2025, 12:55:17 PMThis was her first solo album, I believe, from 2015. It's definitely not string band-esque; I'd probably call it more like straight folk. Bu her voice is stunning, and the songs are beautiful.

I have not listened to CCD in forever. I need to get on that, as well as checking out her other records.

I find her voice often distracting, too trained sounding for the styles she has embraced.  But her banjo playing is excellent, and when she sings in a more natural old time style I enjoy her a lot.

Quote from: Karl Henning on March 02, 2025, 09:20:16 AMYes! I whimsically picked up L at Sam Gioody's one day. I bless that purchase.

A friend of mine and I discovered 10cc together. This would be somewhere around 79-80. We bought everything we could find, though we couldn't find everything back then. We even had an early Hot Legs (pre-10cc) compilation. We bought the 100cc compilation several times over because every time we found a copy of it in the import section, it had a different track listing and included songs we didn't have. (We also discovered that some of the songs we did have were different mixes or edits.) Some albums I never found; I only got a copy of Consequences in any form fairly recently.

I had L on a reddish-orange 8-track. It must have been my first exposure to something non-, or even anti-, commercial. I didn't like every song on it, but the important thing was that my parents didn't like any of them. 'This Sporting Life', 'Punchbag' and 'Business is Business' were my hooks.

One of the songs I linked above, 'Freeze Frame', contains the lyric 'Going down, like Neanderthal Man on the chart.' 'Neanderthal Man' was a single by Hot Legs and on the comp we had. I thought that was such a great lyric.

Quote from: Karl Henning on March 02, 2025, 09:20:16 AM@71 dB ... apart from "I'm Not in Love," this was the first 10cc I heard, and it made a powerfully positive impressive impression on me. YMMV

Thanks but after a few tracks I had to stop. I am done with 10cc. This music is not my thing. I checked them out because Ian Hill raved about the 2nd album and the song I knew and even have "I'm Not In Love" is the closest to my taste, but even it isn't very close. Nothing surprising here actually. Most of the stuff I check out are misses rather than hits. Finding music I really like is difficult and takes time/effort. Now I at least know 10cc is out for me and I can move on...

MULL HISTORICAL SOCIETY - In My Mind There's A Room
XTRA MILE RECORDINGS

Finally the postman delivered this album release in 2023. Here Colin MacIntyre collaborates with other authors using their words. The overall mood is a bit different and for a while I hesitated purchasing this CD, especially as the prices looked high. As a part of a bigger order I paid 15.94 euros for this which isn't cheap, but not insanely expensive either. At 64 minutes and 51 seconds total playing time this is the longest MHS/Colin MacIntyre album so far...

Kraftwerk: Radioaktivität (live at the Semperoper Dresden, September 2024). Almost worth it for the visuals alone, and really good sound, considering it was likely recorded on someone's phone. Other videos from the concert are on YouTube, as well.

And one more. I see that others have posted footage from the event — even what appears to be the entire concert — but the audiovisual quality of these clips is much better.

I haven't heard of them before now.  I'm guessing that this album was from the late '60's/early '70's?

A certain REM song did pop into my mind though.  ;D

Hearing this fabulous take on "This Land Is Your Land" from Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings gave me a much-needed lift this morning.

I'd heard tell of how great this collection was, and they weren't exaggerating - I've played this through five times in the last two days. Highest possible recommendation.
