Arrived today:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

Some bargains I could not resist, all for less than 20 euros. I am especially curious for the Amadeus Mozart of the 50s.

Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

Finally found the Dantone Haydn 78-81 symphonies. The Arrau/Szigeti Beethoven violin sonatas in mediocre sound, but the first I heard of it is great.

Unfortunately just a one off instead of the originally projected series, but it's very good.

I don't know yet as I haven't received the CD  ;D
It features mostly live performances of some of my favourite works by Bliss including 'Morning Heroes' the Piano Concerto and the Concerto for Two Pianos as well as the Colour Symphony. Somm release some interesting material.

"Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise..."

Sometimes, not knowing about your troubles does make life feel oddly pleasant. Especially once you realise that the past and future don't actually exist anywhere except in your own thoughts.

And if the real trouble lives only in your head—well then, perhaps blissful ignorance isn't such a bad place to be after all :)

Are you still able to find room in your man cave--or have you had to add either an upper level or a basement to it?  ;D

I've listened to this.  The standout performance is Ogdon playing the piano concerto at the Proms.  Possibly the most impressive version bar none.  All the other performances are of real interest to Bliss admirers - the orator in Morning Heroes is excellent but the choirs a bit ropey for example.  The LSO/Proms Colour Symphony is interesting to compare to the studio version the same performers made for Decca a few years earlier which is technically better but perhaps the Proms versions is more dynamic.  Because Bliss did make studio recordings of his own music there are duplications here where the studio versions sound better but this is a valuable survey overall.

Thanks a lot RS. Can't wait to hear Ogdon playing the underrated Piano Concerto and another recording of Morning Heroes.

Uh, oh!  Do you ever thin things out (as in saying to yourself "I'm really not that keen on the works/performances/or I have ones that I much prefer")?

Well, look what arrived on my doorstep this morning. Unbeknownst to be, it just also happens to be Igor's birthday today.
