As I heard the year described in St Petersburg: Nine months of winter and three months of waiting for summer.

Forgive me for being out of the loop, but I thought you lived in one of the Carolinas? Did you move?

I'm visiting my parents. But I'm flying back tomorrow. My ac has been off for two weeks. It will be hot when I get back!

Low 70s F (20s C) with a comfortable dew point of 54F (12C) here in San Diego about 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean, forecast to rise to 80 F (high 20s C) next week.  We don't get the over 100F temps typically until September, and it's no longer a dry heat, with increased moisture coming up from the South.

Which is not hot by our standards.

What is unusual is the relative lack of rain. None since Saturday, none predicted until the weekend at least.
Usually at this time of year we start to get strong afternoon thunderstorms rolling from the Everglades to the coast and then out over the water, on an almost daily basis.
So far this year those haven't really happened. Only significant rain was due to that low that hovered off the Carolina coast for a few days two or three weeks ago.

Don't know about the summers in St Petersburg, but we Finns jokingly call our summers "Muuten hyvä kesä, mutta niin vähäluminen", which means "Otherwise [this is] a good summer, but [there's] so little snow."

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

I'd be happy to share some ours.   :)

Quote from: Spotted Horses on June 18, 2025, 03:56:25 PMIt made national news, I thought

Whoever did it seems to have climbed the steps inside the bell tower, but climbing over the eaves and scaling the tower roof with a 60 lb pumpkin was in impressive feat.

Lots of stuff going on in my life at that time, so I must have missed it.  How on earth did they get it up there?!

Currently watching a bit of live streaming of the hawks.  They have fledged and are busy exploring the campus.  Lots of construction going on there!

Might help install friend's a/c this afternoon; it depends whether or not he decides to visit his sister today.  It's due to be another toasty one today.

EDIT:  We lost power last night.  I'm grateful that it wasn't out for long.  I suspect that it was due to increased power usage and they had to make some adjustments, but don't know for certain.

Quote from: 71 dB on June 24, 2025, 01:20:18 AMI wish it was +16°C today. Right now it is +12°C (feels like +10°C) and raining. It could be September. At this point I am so desperate for warmth I'd take your +35°C...

Sorry to hear. That is pretty chilly for summer - but trust me, you don't want our heat. It wasn't just the temperature but the humidity. The dew point yesterday was even worse than Monday - 26ºC, with a heat index of 45ºC. Quite dangerous.

JBS

Naturally, since I commented on the lack of rain yesterday, it is raining this morning.

Yes, dangerous. Better stay indoors and turn the AC to the max.

Last few days, the temp has been 95ºF by the afternoon w/ 49% outside humidity today - in Piedmont North Carolina my iPhone altitude app puts us at 840+ ft - last week we were on a short vacation to the NC mountains (Banner Elk) - our rental cabin was at 4400+ ft and the temps were in the 70s during our stay - now that was more like it!  ;D  Dave

Kalevala

Well, my friend and I managed to get his a/c installed today.  Boy, it was hot outside--not as bad as yesterday, but there was still a heat advisory.  That's the good news for the day.

The bad news:  afterwards, we were doing some errands and he received a phone call from his younger sister and was told that their older sister had passed away today.

What AC? Almost no one in Vermont has AC, except in cities like Burlington and Montpelier, and even there, it's mostly window units, not central air. When I move next week into a new place, I am going to try to get a window unit as we are clearly getting dangerous heat now, something unthinkable here even just a few years ago. :(
