Last order of the day

I've obviously going to listen to some opera in the next few weeks.

Hollywood Beach Broadwalk

André

Haydn et al. on an 1816 Broadwood fortepiano. Worth a try.

Don Gio in various period arrangements for the piano. Another one worth a try.

Couldn't resist. The Devil made me do it 😈

Bought about half an hour ago at a local garage sale.

I'm getting the impression from reviews that these recordings are a little 'nice' and not as red-blooded as Svetlanov's earlier recordings in Russia. But I'll take a punt on 'nice' for 1 dollar.

(I did leave a fair few other CDs alone. I don't want clutter.)

Just like with my videogame "collection," I have fully accepted that I will never even get close to getting through it all.

I a very excited about the Mozart set, though - I've been listening to samples of his early symphonies for a while, and they seem right up my alley.

From Foyles on Charing Cross Road in London:

Some really obscure (at least to me) pianists and composers. Contents and comments here.

It was high time I explored the music of Lili Boulanger.

I've enjoyed almost everything by Elisabeth Lutyens I know.

The music of Éric Montalbetti is new to me. When @Brian alerted us of this new release some months ago, samples on YouTube of this composer's music seemed appealing. By pure coincidence, I saw one of the conductors on this CD —Yazuki Yamada— conduct a very satisfying Proms concert last night.

Looks to be a memorable haul. Shop for some books at Hatchards for me! Or pop in to the London Review combination book shop and cake shop for tea  8)

The French Concertos disc looks very interesting.
