Two thoughts occurred to me between swaths of sleep, around 05:00. Borrowing the passacaglia theme from Plotting for the next piece for the Sextet, The Texas Chainsaw Passacaglia (which won't be needed until 2027) and basing the concertante piece for clarinet and band on The Mask I Wore Before.

Mom update: the pool of blood has moved, but is no worse. Still looks like we can avoid surgery. Neurosurgeon orders Mom to no physical strenuousness, so this is another reason we're glad not to have parked her in a rehab facility where they would likely have pressed her to do PT which is now contraindicated.

Here's the concert entire:

I've now, at long last, uploaded the video from the 5 September 2025 concert at Redeemer. The recordist is a volunteer from the church trying his best and there were ad hoc challenges, so this mustn't be taken as ingratitude. there are more challenges to watching the concert in its entirety than I should ask anyone else to sit through. that said, I think one of the best experiences within the imperfect document is the Fantasia on a Theme of Rahsaan Roland Kirk.

Greta visited with Mom while my brain got a workout at PT yesterday. She brought Mom some tulips which was sweetly thoughtful. Mom is drawing them now.

The morning was a complete success logistically and medically, and I sure needed a nap on our return home.

April is domestic distribution month at ASCAP. My royalty check is even better than last year, good to report. It's not an impressive figure in per annum terms, but thoroughly welcome goose to this month's budget. The deposit notification also reminds me to get info together to send to my publisher in preparation of applying for the ASCAP Plus award.

A modest ca. $200 annual award to composers like me with fewer than a thousand performances. (I pulled the number 1,000 out of a hat, I don't know the official threshold.)
