Performances exceed my expectations.
The programming with a mix of choral pieces, accompanied songs and solo lute pieces might fit the "Venetian" theme, but is not ideal.

In the repeat mode, afterall I found it to be a excellent performance....
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

The Codex Chantilly is one of the most important musical sources for the "Ars subtilior" (1377-1420), which is characterized, among other things, by complex rhythms, the inclusion of distant tones and an artistic, sometimes even mannered notation. The music reflects the high degree of artistic and cultural refinement at the French court in the 14th century. So far I like what I hear. Over the years I have l listen to several of these CD's, but it never caught my fancy, but today it finally sunk in. Sometimes it needs a lot of preparation to get at the point on which you can hear the notes that connects all. It connects so I connect.
The sound quality is excellent being recorded, 1995/96/98/2010 in a beautiful church, with just the precise amount of reverb. Great ambiance.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

RV 489 in F major
RV 479 in C major

There are still various parts where my enjoyment is slightly hampered by the overblown orchestra. It's funny that at the same time I've encountered two different volumes of the series where the balancing feels off, albeit for different reasons.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Pulled these three albums from the Michael Tilson Thomas big box for some memorial listening:

I could dig into the Boston Symphony box for his Piston and Ruggles later.
