Despite the poor reputation Goodman's Nimbus cycle has in this forum, I like it and was pleased to hear the horns clearly in his Third.
I know, some like to accuse it as "pseudo-HIP". But if you enjoy it what do you care what some d*ckheads have to say.

I was going to do the usual thing and get several discs by different composers, but I figured I would go for one big box of music by one composer this time.

Can't be bad.

Brahms?  ???

Yes.

Oops! I thought that was the Katchen box, my turn to make a mistake.  :P

Bolet is great for Liszt.

Can't be bad.

From the little I've heard of Liszt, I gathered that it was worth the risk to shell out the bucks for the big box. I'm sure I'll love all of it.

I have a two-disc subset of that box and it's awesome indeed.  8)

My bad. No Chopin.

He has, however, recorded Scarlatti (sonatas) and Tchaikovsky/Medtner (piano concertos) albums, which are both exceptional.

Let me also add my voice in the chorus of praise for the Bolet Liszt boxset.  8)

Will do, I was as intrigued! :) Never heard Latin American Baroque before, the shop in Amsterdam had several issues from K617 from their Latin Amarican Baroque series on special offer. Are you familiar with some of those?

I have only this one. It is collection of 20 songs and dances from northern Peru as transcribed by Baltazar Martinez Companon, bishop of Trujillo, during 1782-85. The music is gorgeous but how much can it be considered as baroque as we usually know it I don't really know. Here is one song so you can hear for yourself:

Dang it, you had me all excited and Google-searching.  ;D

EDIT: Good news, though; sometime in the next year Sudbin will be recording Beethoven piano concertos with Osmo Vanska and the Minnesota Orchestra.

I surely hope he'll play Medtner's cadenzas in No.4.

Thanks for the sample, much appreciated!  :)
Latin-American baroque might be an interesting sidestep. The issue you have was not on offer. Maybe I'll post the issues that were available on the considering thread, perhaps other members know them.
