AGP110 is a transcription of an out-of-print CD containing Horatiu Radulescu's Sensual Sky and Iubiri. Both works are for chamber ensembles and sound icon (a piano upended and played directly on the exposed strings). Winds dominate in the scoring, but with a greater variety of timbres than in Inner Time II, making these works somewhat more accessible. Both exemplify Radulescu's approach of, "realisation by synthesis of the global sources of sound, living sound plasmas wherein all the micro-parameters possess an infinite number of micro-rhythms." These are gorgeous works, and a feast for lovers of microtonality. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

AGP 110? :o Wow! I really need to catch up. I left off somewhere in the late 70s because I was running out of disc space. ;D It's high time I started downloading again! :)

Hey, good to hear from you QZ. Is that a second child I see???

Yeah, when I started I thought there would be maybe 40 installments. Then at 40 I was figuring on 80 or so. Now I'm looking to stop for a while around 120 so I can start a different series of transcriptions.

Ha, ha! It is, it is! 8)

AGP is so amazing! :D I hope the break will be short - why not try to reach 200 first? ;D

What would the new series be?

As much as I've loved rediscovering some great late 20th century works in my stacks, the transcriptions dominate my listening to music of that era, and so I tend to neglect works by biggees like Berio, Lutoslawski, Penderecki, Henze, Ligeti, Boulez, and others that are in print. I'm beginning to miss them. Hence the planned hiatus.

I have all this great folk and art music from around the world that was released on LPs in the mid-to-late 20th century--much of which hasn't migrated to CDs. Like the material in the Avant Garde Project, it was never much of a profit center for the original publishers, so I don't think I'll be majorly offending anyone by making it available again. What do you think?

Maciek

Well, I think it sounds very promising. I don't listen to all that much folk music on a daily basis ( 0:)), but I do think there are lots of fantastic gems in there - and I'm sure this new project will be no less valuable than AGP. My wife is a bit of folk culture fanatic, actually, and I'm more than a bit interested myself. I'll be looking forward to it then! (As long as you promise to come back to AGP afterwards ;D)

Subotnick

Wow! That's great news. I recently listened to my first Radulescu, Intimate Rituals and have been eager to hear more. Was just going through the Morton Subotnick I picked up at AGP and was planning to visit there later anyway. As for your new project, go for it. It sounds intriguing, so I'll be keeping a lookout for it. Keep up the good work!  :)
