Fortunately for musicians and listeners, his retirement only lasted a few months, and the works he produced the subsequent six years (the last of his life) included the clarinet trio, sonatas and quintet; the opp 116-119 piano pieces and the Vier ernste Gesänge. I'd take another 20 years at even half that rate.
