Hello !   I  have  been  involved  in  classical  music  since  I  was  a teenager,  and   used  to  be
a  freelance  French  hornist  in  numerous   orchestras,  concert  bands,  opera  companies   and
chamber ensembles  etc.  I  was  also  a  substitute  music  teacher   at  various  public  schools   on
Long  Islands.  I  have  played  under  such  well-known  conductors  as  Joann  Falletta,  Maurice
Peress,  Arthur  Weisberg,  and  Dalia  Atlas, among  others.   I  was  the  classical  music  critic   for
the  student   newspaper  at  Queens  college  while  a  graduate  student  there,  and  reviewed
concerts  for  the  Colden  Center  for  the  Arts  there.
I   am  currently  involved  in   music  appreciation  programs  for   elderly  and  infirm  people
at  nursing  homes  in  Westchester  country ,  NY,  and  previously  did  a  similar  program   at
United  Cerebral  palsy  on  Long  Island.  I  am  hoping  to  expand  my  programs  in  the  appreciation  of
classical  music   and  try  to  reach  people  of  any  age  who  know  little  or  nothing  about
classical   music  and  motivating  them  to  make  it a  part  of  their  lives.
I   enjoy  reading  on  a  wide  variety  of  subjects   an  am  interested  in   history,  georgraphy,
language  and linguistics  among  other  things.

I  also  have  a  blog  on classical  music and  opera  called  the  horn   at
blogiversity.org, site  with  blogs  and   forums  on  a  wide  variety  of  topics.
   My  url  is  http://www.blogiversity.org/blog/the_horn/
I  cover  a  wide  variety  of   classical  music  topics ;  myths  about  classical   music, how  to  increase  the  audience for  it,  snobbism, elitism
in  classical music,  composers  such  as  Wagner, Berlioz, Ives,  Messiaen,
my  instrument  the  horn,  lists  of  basic  repertoire for  beginners,  current
events  in  classical  music  etc.  I  hope  you'll  find  it  interesting.
Some people  have  had  difficulty  with   reaching  my  blog  on  this  site,
but  you  can  access it  directly  from  links  at  these  two  classical  music
blogs :  blog.onopera,  and  mahlerowesmetenbucks.blogspot.com  .

Hello Superhorn - big welcome to the GMG Forum -  ;D

Your bio is fasicinating & looking forward to more detail - my in-laws have a house in Montauk, LI, so I've visited the area often in the past (not as much in recent years, my FIL passed away a few years ago); my wife grew up in New Jersey, so we have frequently visited the NYC area (again, not as much in previous years) - please contribute & looking forward to your posting!  :D

Good work. I, too, did exactly that, professionally for 13 years  0:)

Welcome to GMC  :)

Hi Superhorn, and welcome.  You'll find many people here with whom to share your love of classical music.  And welcome from a fellow blogger, as well.
