Harry

I am a man of repetition these days, listen more intent, and concentrated, so this one again.

Oh, and this past weekend I got a start at last on some Haydn:

Missa in tempore belli, H 22 no 9
Mass in B flat major, H 22 no 13, Schöpfungmesse

Symphonies nos. 1, 2 & 3

Keemun

Scriabin: Piano Concerto (Konstantin Scherbakov, piano; Igor Golovschin; Moscow SO).  Wonderfully played. :)

I am sincerely sorry M.
I have completely misinterpreted your contextual use of the word 'reference'  -  thinking instead you meant something which could be "referred" to with a view to getting something better.  I too believe the Kempe Strauss set to be something of a benchmark.
What an asshole I can be.  I have removed the stupid post, I wish I could make it up better.  Put me on YOUR pay no mind list - alas I WILL continue to read and learn from your posts - it was an ignorant error and a completely unjustified attack on you.
I am most sorry to you and others I have clearly offended through MY IGNORANCE. :-[ :-[ :-[ :(

I am not that easily offended. Thanks anyway. At least that gave me an opportunity to rant about how nasty Karajan's Alpensinfonie sounds once again  ;D

I am forgiven! 0:) 0:)
With The Alpine Symphony being in vogue here at the moment - it's up loud.
Listening to this.  It deserves every ear it can get.
Currently going through 'Gewitter und Strum' - massive and beautiful.

Alexander Gretchaninov.

Piano trio No.1 in C minor, and No. 2 in G major.

Cello sonata in e minor.
The Moscow Rachmaninov Trio.

A wonderful recording that deserves your attention.

Well, I would not wish it any sweeter than it is.

Now:

Vaughan Williams
Symphony No. 4
Bournemouth Symphony
Paul Daniel

Opus106

Beethoven Op. 59 No. 3

It was preceded by a super-fantastic Op. 131.

Alban Berg Quartet.
Regards,
Navneeth

I tried again this fantastic huge romantic wave, and let it roll over me. Well worth the outlay, at least for me.
Its Paganini but with less fireworks, and better compositions.

And the final two and a half minutes of the first movement are quiet and calm (though a kind of "charged calm").

Turns out to be fairly apt listening for this morning, what?

Keemun

Continuing with Scriabin, I'm now listening to Scriabin: Symphony No. 3 (Segerstam/Royal Stockholm PO).
