If Volodya = Vladimir, then yes, he is Vovka's father.

Very good (Volodya is the familiar form for Vladimir).

I heard it's the greatest work ever.  8)

Now trying to listen to this (if the guys across the street would take their leaf blowers, weed-eaters, mowers, etc. and leave so I can hear it  >:( ):

Tchaikovsky: Piano Trio (Ashkenazy Trio)

There is a very special seat, in a very special rung of hell, for those who contributed to the general atmosphere of "Hell on Earth," and the inventor of the leaf blower is in there deep, right next to the guy who invented dryer sheets.

Oh, and how is the Tchaikovsky, esp. compared to the Beaux Arts Trio?

Good day, Harry - the title says 'Spanish songs in America' - assume these were composers flourishing in Mexico during the Spanish Empire; what are the songs like, i.e. European, American, a mixture?

Thoroughly Spanish, based on Italian models. Very special Dave!

This is my first listen, but I like it so far.  I've not heard the Beaux Arts Trio version.

What's wrong with dryer sheets. ???  They make clothes smell nice and eliminate static cling.  :)

I bought a mighty fine set of budget cd's from HM and ZigZag, this is one of them, and well recorded and performed.
Such fine music.....

They give me migraines, and I hate the smell of them (maybe I hate the smell of them because they cause migraines). I have to close my windows when my next door neighbor is drying clothes, or I will get a headache. They contain a lot of toxins, possibly more, and worse ones, than cigarettes.

CPE. Bach.
Flute Sonatas WQ 134/124/127/129/128/133.
Eckart Haupt, Flute.
Siegfried Pank, Viola da Gamba.
Armin Thalheim, Harpsichord.
Capriccio Recording 1982.

Good morning all.

I must say that I was surprised to find such good recordings in this box, but there it is. Flute Sonatas, a case in point! Well articulated by this genius <Eckart Haupt> that impressed me also with his rendering of the Flute Concertos. And well aided by <Pank & Thalheim>.
It sounds authentic and is played that way. Lively tempi, good phrasing, integrated, whole, simple wonderful. Recording is a clear as a bell.

I have read your posts about this set. I agree with almost all your comments. Have you listened the vocal music?.

The last 4 cd's in this set! No, not yet but some of it I know already, so I don't think there will be nasty surprises.
Have you heard them yet?

That's a mind boggling list my friend. Gave me quite a fright.

I haven't listened them yet. I have been listening to discs on instrumental music. I'm enjoying slowly each disc; but I hope that I like the vocal music so much like the instrumental music. This set is really a great collection.

If I remember correctly, one of the non-Hurwitz contributors at ClassicsToday considers the Ashkenazy/Naxos recording to be the "reference" for that piece. It has gotten some phenomenal reviews, though the sound isn't the best.

Berg's Three Pieces, on you tube:

1 & 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sL1t902iBXA

It does remind me of my favorite Mahler symphony (and therefore my favorite symphony), the Sixth. I couldn't find anything for Karajan + Berg, but this Vladimir Jurowski is making music.
