Hi!  Long time no post in this department. :-\

Anyway, this Sunday I'm auditioning for the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra here in Denver.  They are the orchestra in residence for Augustana Lutheran Church here, and they also have their own concert season and IIRC have taken some tours.  They understandably emphasize early music but also do more recent works.  A concert I went to several years back included Mozart's 40th Symphony, a Torelli violin concerto and Ravel's Tzigane and Tombeau de Couperin. :D

We'll see how well they like me, and how well my classical chops have held up through all the jazz, improv et al I've done the last couple of years.

Well, it went.  The music director was very interested to learn I also play recorder, but I think I have some serious competition...

Lighting a votive for you, mon ami!  :D

Good luck jochanaan.

A shame the moderators felt the need to delete M's good-humoured, harmless joke. I find that quite childish really.

I totally forgot what I said here. What was that again? Was it actually funny?

Symphonien

Hmm, it was a while ago now... but I think you said something like "Tell him Jesus wants you to play in his orchestra". It just totally confused me why that was deleted at the time.

I (vaguely) remember now. That was actually not aimed at any member here, so I guess that was just deleted because some of the moderators delete a lot of my posts here. They just want to piss me off and make me delete my account, I guess.

jochanaan

Ah well, Jesus may or may not want me to play in this orchestra.  He hasn't said anything to me definitely, so why should I say anything about Jesus to anyone involved with the audition? :)

Although I have not deleted anything of yours for quite some time M, I am afraid you are probably a victim of your history here. So, if the post was open to being read as a dig; as against wishing Jochanaan well and had some sort of possible swipe at religion, then I guess there would be a good chance of it being booted.

Incidentally, any further allegations about Bruce, or general insults about moderation will be deleted.

as against wishing Jochanaan well

Why would I not wish Jochanaan well when it comes to auditions? Unlike you, I have been a professional musician at one point in my life. So I know what that is like to depend on auditions going well and all that. I think you should apologize for suggesting that.

Since when is that forbidden? There are lots of threads about that. Is this now a religiously controlled forum?

Willfully misunderstanding...you know the score here M. Also, your....I was once a professional musician.....is fast becoming a tedious mantra. Put it on your strapline and you can then manage without having to type it out so often.

1) You undoubtedly have insights, but you are not the world expert on professional musicians, as was amply proved on Luke's thread.

2) Your experience does not elevate you to a level that other people's opinions are irrelevant, which may simply be an inadvertent impression you are leaving. I would like to think it is inadvertent, if so, you will no doubt be on guard against more such tarradiddle.

Superhorn

In my days as a horn player before a physical disability forced me to give it up, I auditioned for a number of orchestras, including the New York Phil.

My blog"the horn" at blogiversity.org describes my experiences, and how auditions for orchestras in general are run in the US. The title is"How do you get a job in a symphony orchestra?", and you can access my blog directly through links at these blogs -  mahlerowesmetenbucks.blogspot.com,  and  horndogblog.com.
