A day may be a destiny; for life
Lives in but little—but that little teems
With some one chance, the balance of all time:
A look—a word—and we are wholly changed.

Mozart's concert aria w/recit. "Ch'io mi scordi di te".  With piano & orch.  :(
Saint: A dead sinner revised and edited.

Anne

Lucia di Lammermoor - tenor's final aria just before he stabs himself  IMO Pavarotti was really good at this one.

Lamenting? Try Lamento di Federico from L'Arlesiane. Not classical, but very lamenting. 8)

Or what about Pamina's Ah, ich fuhl's? Or Elvira's Mi tradi.

Mozart

I was actually just thinking of ach ich fuehls. Is Mi Tradi sad? The words are sad but the music sounds hopeful.

And yes I have that cd Figaro.

I like Handel's arias because the long sad ones seem to almost develop an emotion.

The ways the lines create tension build up and release feel just as if I were alone and depressed going through the emotions. Some of the lines are just total despair...from 8:00-8:35...It always moves me

Another one I thought is Addio del passato from La Traviata.
