Lamenting? Try Lamento di Federico from L'Arlesiane. Not classical, but very lamenting.

Or what about Pamina's Ah, ich fuhl's? Or Elvira's Mi tradi.

I was actually just thinking of ach ich fuehls. Is Mi Tradi sad? The words are sad but the music sounds hopeful.

And yes I have that cd Figaro.

I like Handel's arias because the long sad ones seem to almost develop an emotion.

The ways the lines create tension build up and release feel just as if I were alone and depressed going through the emotions. Some of the lines are just total despair...from 8:00-8:35...It always moves me


Another one I thought is Addio del passato from La Traviata.
