NOTE:  Don't listen to this with a headache - it only makes things worse.  :(

I must have a heart of stone and frozen blood in my veins...... :(
I'm not into this music at all.

Bach

Cantatas, Vol I (BWV 167, BWV 7, BWV 30)

Sir John Eliot Gardiner
Monteverdi Choir
The English Baroque Soloitions
SDG

Well, Bach's Cantatas are not something I've gotten into (yet) either.  But I am quite fond of Bach's Mass in B Minor and Cello Suites.   :)

I absolutely adore his Cello Suites and Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin.

But, I'm not all that enthused about the Goldberg Variations, Brandenburg Concertos, and now the Cantatas.  Perhaps over some time this will change.

I do like the Brandenburg Concertos, when I'm in the mood, and his other concertos, as well as the Well Tempered Clavier.  But I'm also not into his Goldberg Variations, Cantatas or organ works.  But as you said, this might change.  I didn't care much for his Cello Suites the first time I heard them, but now they're probably my favorite works by Bach.  0:)

I made it a musical discipline one year, to peck my way through volume I of the WTC twice;  I do like it very well.

For some reason I have a visual of poultry, at the keyboard.   ??? :P  Maybe Sarge could make an interesting illustration?  :D

I am terribly sorry about this, but I strongly disagree with you and side with Christo in this.
Haitink is horrible depicting VW.
I gave the set to Karl, and he seems to be very happy with it, but it defeats my understanding why! ;D

What is it precisely that you find so 'horrible' about Haitink, Harry.....particularly in the Sinfonia Antartica?

O, there is much written about that in the past on GMG by me and others, but I can sum it up for you, lifeless, lethargic, no sense of direction, one long Adagio, without a detectable pulse, no insight, not a hint of personal involvement. Haitink plays the notes, but he really does not understand VW at all. Just listen to the older recordings of Andre Previn, and you will know what I mean. But ones men's poison is.......
And I am nor alone in this opinion.

Yes...I realise that this subject has been discussed ad nauseam on GMG :) So I shall not extend that discussion any further :)

Wow, that's pretty cool...you rarely see Globokar mentioned around here.  Can you describe it a little more?

Richard Franck - Piano Trios - dinner music tonight & delightful; started a post on the Francks HERE last summer, but little response - this father & son team wrote some wonderful chamber works, much being recorded by Audite - not sure if I've even looked in recent months on newer releases - must do!  :D

Thanks!  I am listening to it now, and it is quite something... 8)  (And I see why you didn't try to put it into too many words...I probably wouldn't, either.  ;D)
