I'd say anything with Moravec on it should be purchased on sight.  $:)

George - think that I was just 'screwed' by MDT.uk - I had ordered the 4-CD set below not too long ago, and was just sent an e-mail by them that the set was no longer available; well in checking my previous e-mail, my purchase price then was 13.46 pounds - now, rechecking their website, the offering is still there, but now @ 37.19 pounds - my previous purchase price should have been honored!  Should I complain?  Really irritating if the set is still available and they raised the price after my order and canceled it! -  >:(   Dave

I got this email from them this morning:

Unfortunately Dave, this is one of the drawbacks of "spreading the love" and telling everyone I knew about that sale price. I think they will honor the sale price and the CDs are still in print to my knowledge, I think this is a temporary problem.

Anyway, I eamiled them 12 hours ago, asking if they knew when the set would become available again and also if they would be honoring the sale price when it did become available. They haven't responded yet.  :-\

So what do I do with the next great deal I find? Tell no one?  ???

George - well, now I'm really PO! I'll send them an e-mail also but doubt that no good will result, but not much effort to do so - however, they should 'honor' the price sent me in their original e-mail regardless of 're-stocking' - Dave  :-\

I hope you guys end up getting the sets.

On the 'Special Offers' page, they state that
Quote
Orders received after ending dates will revert to non offer prices.

The price reverted after the end of the Supraphon sale, but they should honour the offer price as you both put in your orders before the end of the sale period. They tend to leave unavailable items on the catalogue though. I know as I'm still waiting on my copy of the Parnassus Richter Leipzig. It's still there but I'm just getting periodical 'waiting on supplier' emails. I guess I'm ok waiting that one out as they only charge you when they send the item.

Good luck and I hope it pans out :).

No, they should for sure! They have great customer service from what I hear. Tell them about how you heard of it and that you post regularly on a classical music forum. Trust me , they''ll take care of ya!  :)

Perhaps one of our brothers in England can drop them a line tomorrow and ask what's up?

I can give them a buzz tomorrow if you like :).

That would be great! I have a few friends on another forum who are the same situation as Dave and I. If you could let them know we are all waiting and we are huge classical fans who correspond with people from all over the world about classical music (and online sellers), maybe that will persuade them to get things moving. I am most curious about whether or not the sale price will be honored, since I am fairly certain that box is still in print.

Thanks again!

Very nice indeed, this is a Havergal work of real magic.  I listened to exactly the same version yesterday.  What did you think of it?

Novi - hey, thanks for your help - below is the e-mail that I just sent to MDT (I'm not really expecting a response but who knows?) - I'm not sure about when their 'sale' ended but the date of their response to me confirming my order is Jan 23, and the price in the order form is what is listed - really up to you if a call may help or we can just wait - but I really don't want to now spend 3x as much on the set - thanks again.  Dave  :)

QuoteDear Sir,

Below on Jan 23, I received a confirmation from you of the purchase of the Ivan Moravec 4-CD set for the price of 13.46 Pounds, and was quite pleased at this bargain - then on Jan 30, I received the e-mail below (between the *, and w/ a completely different order #?) indicating that the Moravec selection was 'OUT OF STOCK' and my order for this selection was cancelled.

Well, in checking your website, the 4-CD offering by Moravec is still listed but now priced at 37.19 Pounds!  Obviously, you have likely re-stocked this selection and have decided to jilt me out of the bargain commitment made on my original order - really, a poor decision!

This is already being discussed on a classical music forum (good-music-guide.com), which may have little impact on your business, but there are many English members on this site - the bottom line is that you owe me this 4-CD set at the purchase price offered originally - the proof is in writing - I can't take you to court, but really should be able to - thanks!

Haydn trios, 'American cello Masterpieces, Frescobaldi toccatas and sundry harpsichord works.

The Haydn disc is an outright winner. Sturdy, no nonsense HIP performances (IOW no preciousness). Septuagenarian Mireille Lagacé mans the fortepiano with a perfect blend of assertiveness and collegiality that precludes any kind of aggressivity or prissiness in the music making. Strings blend in just right and more than once I was reminded how close Boccherini was to Haydn.

The ACM disc is a bit unequal. Following the Carter sonata with the Barber one certainly takes some adjustment from the listener (I suppose the players had a few days' rest between the two, whichever came first). In any case, my favourite pieces happened to be Bloch's 'From Jewish Life' Prayer, Supplication and Jewish Song. Some things never age.

The Frescobaldi disc has the benefit of a superb sounding italian instrument. And yet I couldn't put it better than this internet review:
QuoteOne can understand how the keyboard music of early Baroque composer Girolamo Frescobaldi anticipates Bach in its systematic exploitation of available resources, and still be left cold by the experience of listening to it.
This is the second Fresobaldi disc I'm trying and I fail to hear anything more than mildly compelling music that stops being interesting long before the disc is over.

Right now, K 376-379 violin and piano sonatas by Mozart. Jean-Claude Rivest and David Breitman. K 379 is one of my top top top Mozart chamber music works and these performers give it a wonderful reading.

I got the same e-mail from them; that's their way of saying that the item is in backorder. They usually ship the other - already available -  items so as not to delay deliveries unnecessarily and then ship the backordered item separately at the same price and at no extra shipping cost. So, as long as the 13.46 number is quoted in your (and my) confirmation e-mail and at your orders' page on their website, you're OK. Worry not, they have excellent customer service.

That is, if I might say, a most excellent choice. :)

You may!  ;D I might say that I was listening to Piano Sonata 21. I forgot to earlier. In B Fat Major according to my tags!  :-[ My body's awake, but my brain isn't...

LUTOSLAWSKI:        Symphony n. 3                / BPO, Lutoslawski

The best version of this extraordinary Symphony. Much more structured than Salonen, with an impressive tension, in special in the 2nd movement, the interpretation of Lutoslawski gives an intense dramatic presence to the work.
