Another question?  :)

Do you loan your CDs out?

I don't because I've learnt [many, many years ago] that they often don't come back at all or if they do I've had to chase them and they have marks on the cd, booklet and scratches on the jewel case.

My collection is precious to me and some titles I've searched for years to obtain. I like introducing new music to friends/guests but they expect to leave my property with my cd in their hands! I'll happily burn a copy for them and hopefully they'll buy it for themselves. :)

Whats your policy?

Same attitude as yours to lending. No one cares for my discs like I do.

Perhaps I should get out more. ???

Only to a few friends who value CDs as much as I do and who understand the proper care and handling.

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Same here - the answer is 'no', for all the reasons cited by SW.

That's also my regimen.

PerfectWagnerite

I did, but no longer. Bastards never return my CDs. They think by loaning the CD to them they own it.

Yep, annoying eh?

And when you ask for it to be returned they react like you've got the problem  ::)

I don't have many friends who share my taste in music, and one that I was trying to introduce to serious art music has had some CDs of mine for months, and still has not listened to any of them.

mahlertitan

i would be delighted if someone asks, however, the reality is none of my friends care for classical music, not even the slightest interest.

I prefer to keep them all to my self.
Works best for me! ;D

The Mad Hatter

I keep a catalogue of all my CDs. If I loan any of them, I make a note of who has it, so I can hunt them down if needs be.

I just loan them to other OCD type A personalities like myself who will take care of them.

Me too. I recently sent a boxed set across the Atlantic and got it back inside of a month.  :)

Dont let people borrow anything, youll never get it back. And if you its because its damages and they have no further use for it.

Mozart

If someone wants to borrow cds take them to the library.

MishaK

My simple rules are that I will loan my CDs (a) only to trustworthy friends and (b) only if the CD in question is not out of print, extremely hard to find or autographed.

The Mad Hatter

lol, I'm a terrible borrower, though. Not because I mean to keep CDs, and I'm very careful with them, but I always just forget to give them back...

Though my previously foot-high pile of borrowed CDs has dwindled to a mere two inches now. So I must be doing something right.

I keep a separate stack of CD's that were loaned to me for this very reason. I recently sought out a friend that I hadn't seen in over 5 years and dropped off his CD's at his work. It hurt moy conscience too much that I still had them. Felt good giving them back.

As for giving them back, I think it should be the responsibility of the borrower to initiate the return. I hate having to ask for borrowed items back and feel like I shouldn't even have to. Same goes for money.
