There's a new classical music magazine on the scene - Listen Magazine which was recently launched by ArkivMusic.  They sent me a complimentary copy a couple of weeks ago.  It's thin and inexpensive.  I didn't find it worth much.  Any other opinions?

I saw it in the AkivMusic site by accident, and was not impressed. Perhaps I'm just not 'lifestyle' enough...

They sent me 2 different issues.  I didn't find it interesting.  I think I'll give them away at our local classical meetup (classical.meetup.com) along with some of the CDs I've never gotten anyone to take.

I got a comp. issue also and signed up. It was entertaining to me, and I want to support those endeavors. Plus the price wasn't bad.

Same here.  It was very inexpensive so I figured I'll see what a few issues look like.

Mr. Darcy

Same here. I thought the magazine was OK but, since I generally turn straight to the reviews, I was a bit disappointed to fine more Hurwitz reviews. Nothing against the guy--I find his writing entertaining and often informative. I guess I was just looking for something new...

Regardless, I'll be supporting the venture.

I got one; it didn't have much to report. Thin gruel indeed beside, say, Gramophone.  Maybe I'll give it another chance sometime.

After discovering music journals at my university library, I can never go back to popular magazines. The amount of detail in publications like Tempo, Perspectives of New Music or The Musical Times puts a Gramophon or Listen to shame. What's really sad is that a couple of decades ago Gramophon almost had such a level of detail, but it has become progressively more fluff over the years.

CRCulver, when I did search on Tempo magazine, it turned up a half dozen on the first page. Two in the U.S. one in Texas and one in the Carolinas. Could you give a link? I'd like to check it out. Thanks.
