Then try The Times Literary Supplement! - That's London Times -. I used subscribe to the NY Review of books, but switched to the Londoners, more worldwide literature, plus usually one or two opera, play or concert reviews. They now have a distributor in the US and I get them regularly, once week.

The others on my list are Opera - also London, not the NY Met's house organ! -
The New Yorker, because of the cartoons and the sentimental desire to show my support to the people of NY after 9/11.
For all the news I ever need there is Der Spiegel - Take note of the correct spelling, Dear Steve!  ;)-
Last one: Nature Conservancy publication.

I didn't know it was available in the United States... very interesting.  :)

Hmm, it seems that you've also assisted in an unspecified desire of mine to persue some Opera Publications. I will be giving both a try.

As to the spelling of Spiegel- would you know it, take German for 9 years, and I still goof  ;D

Once a week (or almost that often ::)) I go to the library of my institute and browse the new issues of all the literary and scholarly journals they have there. They also have a small selection of stuff for the "general" reader - and I browse through that too. I used to avidly buy popular science magazines (like the Polish edition of Scientific American), computer magazines (Polish editions of Chip and PC World) and history magazines. But I can't afford all of them anymore and couldn't settle for one or two either. Which is OK - they took too much of my time anyway. 8)

I don't read these religiously, but I'll pick them up on occasion.

Gramophone
Rue Morgue
Mojo
Classic Rock
Locus

I have no interest in politics or news. I'm living in a fantasy world and do not need it disturbed with depressing facts.

The Mad Hatter

Heh, I mostly read fiction. If I'm looking for news, I read the Irish Times. The only other publications I read are musical, so I'm not allowed post them here. :)

I missed that part. Oh well.

I read fiction as well.

The three magazines that I get every month are Saveaur,  Imbibe and Paste.  And from time to time I'll get Wine Spectator, one of the Cigar rags,  and Yoga Journal.

I do like to get the Sunday NY times.  It's hard for me to get through the whole thing in a week.

Those guys have also gone way downhill. No longer the cutting edge investigative journalism it used to be. Sometimes, but rarely nowadays. A lot of useless fluff.

Most non-musical publications these days have the effect of making me horribly depressed about the world (a sign of ageing, I'm sure), so I avoid everything except a twice daily glimpse at the BBC's online news service - just enough to keep me abreast. I used to take The Guardian, but it now seems too left of centre for my tastes, and The Times is a joke compared to what it was 15 years ago. I also used to like The Observer, but even this feels like it's taken a tumble.

I have no problems with The Guardian's politics, but am ambivalent about The Observer. I love their sections on food especially the monthly food magazine (can't cook to save my life, but love food porn ... I get it for the articles ;)) but have you ever seen the 'Woman' magazine? What a joke - Cosmo masquerading as ersatz commentary on gender issues. Actually, scrap that - it doesn't even pretend to do much but sell a bit of make up and the odd shoe or two. I like the Everyman crossword though :).

Noticed this also! Ever since Augstein's departure, slowly but surely, it came closer and closer to a Boulevard publication. Too many of those short blips, four to a page, instead of in-depth articles. But old habits are hard to break; it will take some effort to stop subscribing to it.

There is always Klaus Umbach and his humorous opera reviews to look forward to!  ;D

Think this might apply to me, too. :(

And me! :D 8)

(Weeklies and newspapers are the only stuff I never read when I'm at that library - and I don't have a TV!!! :D :D :D)
