Hi Andy - well, that 'box set' is definitive for the Songbook Recordings on Verve of the 8 or so composers which were part of this long project; of course, she made other recordings on Verve, and also for other labels; I have at least another half dozen or more CDs of her w/ just a little overlap!

Now concerning the song "All of Me"; this is a  jazz standard written by Gerald Marks and Seymour Simons in 1931, and sung and recorded by many over the years; however, these composers are not part of the 'Songbook Recordings', so you'll have to look elsewhere for this particular song.

Now, how to get started w/ Ella is not easy to answer; I guess multi-disc 'compilations' would be one way to at least get a feel for what you may like of her singing; check out the sets from Proper Records from the UK; these are well re-mastered & offer great value - I own a bunch of other artists from this company.  Let us know what you discover - I can always 'refine' my Fitzgerald collection - Dave  :)

Thanks! Fitzgerald is truly awe-inspiring.

Oh, you finally got into Ella. Try Sarah Vaughan next. She's awesome too.

Yeah, in a comfortable, not mind-blowing, way.

That's how I felt. Very, very good though. About even with Dehumanizer.

Actually, I rate Bible Black with some of the best Black Sabbath. Breaking into Heaven is so Black Sabbath Vol.4, perhaps more quintessentially "Black Sabbath" than anything previous with Dio.

I don't know if you've heard the extra tracks from the "Dio Years" compilation, Dave, but if "The Devil You Know" gets repackaged including those three tracks, it will edge very near Classic status, in my humble opinion.

Really? I would expect them to click or not click pretty quick. They certainly aren't a subtle band.

He recently clicked for me. I have enjoyed getting to know his early stuff. The River is up next.

Clicked? So you have him a chance? I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work for me.

I stayed far away for many years, until last year I got Born to Run and loved it! I bought up all the old stuff and have everything up to Tunnel of Love. Some great stuff there.

Dylan I hated for years and then saw No Direction Home.  :o The rest is history.

Yeah, Dylan's book turned me on to him. After years of not giving a shite.

Chronicles, Right? I got it a month ago, but I am in no hurry to read about music. Too many years studying music, I just want to enjoy it now.
