I'm so excited!  Hilary Hahn is coming to Greensboro, NC in July, and I've got tickets in Orchestra I Center!  Apparently she's touring with Josh Ritter this summer.  Sounds very different.  Can't wait to go!  Below is the press release:

Happy day.  Happy day.   :D :D :D

Violinist Hilary Hahn with guitarist Josh Ritter, July 17, 2007
At the age of 27, Grammy Award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn is one of the most compelling artists on the international concert circuit. Renowned for her intellectual and emotional maturity, she was named "America's Best" young classical musician by Time Magazine in 2001, and appears on a regular basis with the world's great orchestras in Europe, Asia, and North America. On July 17 she'll perform with singer/songwriter Josh Ritter, who says of the collaboration: "....great music is too broad to restrict it to fossilized styles. It's an ipod world out there, and increasingly we listen to music to hear something we've heard over and over before. Going to a concert should be about slipping something new in, some kind of new take that widens the perspectives of both the artists and the audience. That is what culture is all about after all; it's about development through the unexpected."

Thank God for that. I saw the thread title and panicked, thinking you were off to see Hilary Clinton ...

Yeah, gotta be careful there, since Hilary! (Rodham Clinton, that is) was the first woman to successfully change her last name to an exclamation mark in connection with her first bid for the US Senate.

Do tell me how the performance goes. She's doing the same performance here in Ravinia later this summer and my cousins want to go (though I tend to cringe at these poppy programs).

Now you just need to pick out a ring.  :-*

I recently saw Hahn here in Chicago. She was so kind as to autograph a CD after. I'm sure you'll enjoy the performance.  :)

Yes, she enjoys meeting her fans post-performance and usually sticks around for signings. I have her Elgar/RVW autographed.

I'll be sure to take along a CD.  Maybe she'll let me take a picture.

So is she going to be wearing a two-piece or one-piece?

Whatever she wants.  I'm not fussy.   ;)

HT - now don't get too excited, she may disappoint!  ;) ;D

But for those in the mid-Atlantic area of the USA, come June-July, there is a yearly festival - Eastern Music Festival that is quite unique - brings together many local & national/international artists - both performances & teaching formats - a special experience that occurs in the Piedmont area of North Carolina on an annual basis - if you're in the area at this time of the year, a consideration -  :D

I have seen her live at least seven times and so far she has failed to disappoint.  ;D

O Mensch - can't compare to your seeing her live (just once for me), but that was just a 'tongue in cheek' response -  ;)   I may have been referring to her 'non-musical' pleasures since our mutual friend would like her hand in marriage - sorry for the confusion -   ;) ;D

I saw her do the Prokofiev 1st Violin Concerto at the Skaneateles Festival, and afterwards she just went right out in the lobby and signed recordings. I did not attempt to meet her (she's much too young for me anyway). She did a great job on the concerto.

Hey, at least I'm a guy that can make a firm commitment.   ;D

STAGE MATCH!!!

Who would last longer playing 16th notes on D continuously till one player drops out, making the other the winner?

Hilary Haun or Lara St. John?

I managed to get the wife (who is completely not a classical music fan) out about a year ago to see Ms. Hahn perform Glazunov's violin concerto with the local symphony. It was a great introduction to a work I had not previously heard (until a few weeks before the concert when I sought a recording of it out ;)). Hilary Hahn played it marvelously and played a haunting encore but the piece currently escapes me...

She autographed my copy of her Paganini/Spohr disc.

Heather Harrison

I saw her a few months ago with the Utah Symphony; she performed the Sibelius violin concerto.  She stayed around afterwards to meet the audience; I managed to get her autograph on one of her CDs.  (I forget which one at the moment; I have a lot of them.)
