Hello Q - I left a post in the Haydn Haus thread yesterday HERE about the Haydn PCs - have added the Brautigam disc to my 'buy' list - good recommendations & support from Gurn; but in searching for other options (including the one you show above), I came across a 4-CD set of the 'complete' PCs played by Palumbo (pic inserted above, right) - no responses yet but was curious if anyone 'in the audience' on this thread might have comments, i.e. performances, type of instrumentation, etc.?  Thanks all -  :D

Dave, see my comments HERE. :)

The Manfredini CD is worth having.  For years, I have only known one of his concertos in a Christmas album performed by Karajan and the BPO ...

Hi Stuart - just learned about that Christmas concerto from the liner notes of the CD shown; actually that piece is the 12th concerto in the Op. 3 works, and also goes by the name Pastorale per il Santissimo Natale - Dave  :)

OK, I'll stop.

If you happen to see the set at a spectacularly good price, I would be grateful if you passed the information along; it is not lack of desire which is the impediment! The household acquisitions department is in very frugal mode for this and the next budget cycle due to construction, college, and other so-called necessary expenditures in other departments.

This is as cheap as I have ever seen it.

It's better to purchase Brilliant releases from European outlets for they are usually cheaper there compared to American ones, e.g., here. In this case, though, the difference is only a little.

Dowland, John - Lute Music w/ Jakob Linberg; 4-CD set on the Brilliant label - licensed from BIS (also shown below); already own most of the O'Dette discs, but this offering is just great value.  Lindberg plays 2 different lutes (both gut-strung) and an orpharion w/ metal strings.  Excellent MusicWeb review HERE:)

Have listened to the first 20 minutes of Van Raat's version of Rzewski's famous work to be able to compare him with Drury.

Let me get this straight first. Van Raat is a very fine pianist, which he has proven more then once. Also on this recording he plays great. But I was used to the sound of Drury's version. The sound on the recordings are very different. On van Raat's the sound is light and on Drury's more massive, fluent and warm. The sound of the piano is very different I think. I think I still prefer Drury because of the sound, though van Raat's interpretation is just as good (or maybe even better?).

Most interesting, Henk; thanks!
