Now playing this CD, which I received from Stereophile for free back in the mid 90's for subscribing to that audio mag ...

Operetta Festival.

Ralph Benatzky.

"Im Weissen Ross'l"

Soloists: Hilde Brauner, Friedl Loor, Kurt Equiluz, Karl Terkal.
Choir and Orchestra der Wiener Volksoper, Josep Leo Gruber.

I have no idea when this was recorded, for there are no dates on this box, which I bought for just 5 euro's, containing four cd's with highlights from different operetta composers. The sound is acceptable, but not more than that, still I enjoy the music. A young Kurt Equiluz, that clearly shows what a good Tenor he is. Hilde Brauner was unknown by me, but boy how beautiful was the singing before 1960.

ALBENIZ:       Suite Espagnole               / Alicia de Larrocha  (EMI, 1959)

The work is much more simple and conventional than Iberia. But it is very enjoyable. The interpretation of Larrocha is perfect.

Tony Dvorak:
Tema con Variationi
Poetic Tone Pictures

(Pianist: Radoslav Kvapil)

Paul Abraham.

"Victoria und ihr Husar"
Operetta, ( Highlights)

Soloists: Hilde Brauner, Kurt Equiluz, Horst Winter, Toni Niessner.
Choir and Orchestra der Wiener Volksoper, Josef Leo Gruber.
Recording dates unknown, but I suspect somewhere in the fifties.

Sound is much better, and the music delicious lightweight. Very fine singing.

Paul Abraham.

"Die Blume von Hawai".
Operetta, (Highlights)
Soloists: Hilde Brauner, Kurt Equiluz, Horst Winter, Toni Niessner.
Choir and Orchestra der Wiener Volksoper, Josef Leo Gruber.

What a fine voice Hilde Brauner has, but Friedl Loor is also top notch. What a pity that I cannot find pictures of them, or even useful info, but maybe my search is erronious? ;)
Kurt Equiluz is a joy from begin to end. Well recorded and performed.
