I prefer to keep him buried  ;)

Me too! Wanted to give him a new chance. Halfway I got unsatisfied again and turned it off.

Until now Prokofiev had been my "secret". I had been avoiding hearing anything by him, and as I don't listen to radio I was highly successful in this aim. Essentially, I was saving him for a rainy day. The 6th symphony is more ambitious in scale than I was expecting, and so far I like it a lot. I wonder why they spread the waltz suite over two discs, though. I don't think people care about medium playing lengths enough to justify it being split to bulk two discs out... Meh. Recorded sound is nice, orchestral playing is nice, all is well in Prokoland.

Certainly. Pretty harshly abridged in many cases.

I know that's a landmark 1812, and the recording itself is superb, but Dorati takes it way too fast for my liking.

Oh, that would spoil the piece, I think, too.
