Florestan

Bruckner

Symphony No. 3 in D minor

Jochum / SKD

No sooner had the Second shone a ray of hope for me than came along this monster: with its chaotical meandering and incessant alternance of forte fortissimo with pianissmo, experiencing it was --- dare I say it? --- profoundly boring. This time not even the Scherzo could redeem it for me. I could hardly wait for the end, but even that was disappointing: abrupt and unexpected, as if Bruckner himself decided to finally cut short a too long affair.

Three gone, six more to go and the prospects are dim.

Ah...but your patience is about to be rewarded.  1, 2, and 3 have little merit in my ears.  The rest required sustained effort, but I finally came around to wanting to hear each of them occasionally just for the sake of hearing them and not out of a sense of duty.

;D

I've never heard any of those concerts before and I was enjoying each and every one immensely. There's so much more in the piano repertoire than the warhorses...

Karl, love that performance (Ravel SQ in F by Ad Libitum Qt)

Florestan - Did you break the recording for most consecutive "What are you listening to?" posts?   ;D I guess everyone else was sleeping.  8)
