Welcome, Jaime.

I'm new here, too, and just happen to be in need of some education.   :)

I don't know if this counts or not, but I love Sir Arnold Bax' works, and he was strongly celtic inspired.

Anyway welcome aboard the gmg forum!! :)

Hi Jamie - welcome to the GMG Forum!  :D  Looking forward to you posting here and hearing about your experiences as a teacher & composer.

BTW - I'm also a big fan of Celtic Isles music - have seen a lot of groups in my local area over the years, had a 100% Irish grandmother, and made just one (unfortunately) trip to Ireland a while back - but my 'musical' wife fell in love w/ the Irish harp on that trip, and now has several - cheers!

Hi Jamie, glad to have you aboard.  This is an active forum, so jump in at will.  Who are some of your influences as a composer.  I scribble a little, too.

Did I know this . . . ?

I almost never mention it since I don't have a website (yet) to put things up for listening, and my work habits are notoriously streaky.  But after seeing your post about ReverbNation you have inspired me to try to get some things posted.  All I have right now are Finale renderings.

Yes... got to sort the avatar...  :P  thanks for the welcoming guys. Yep, I compose and I am in a crisis about what to write next feeling now that the audience for contemporary music is shrinking more and more. It always bothered me but having just got a CD of my stuff I find myself very slow to promote it. I don't think folks will 'get it'. My style is a weird mix of Bill Evans, Stravinsky, Feldman and Messiaen.

Very interesting composers, all also among my influences.  Don't be discouraged about finding an audience, throughout all periods this has been the same kind of problem, but I think that today there are more outlets for a composer than ever before.  Just plow on doing what you find meaningful and improving your craft, and get out there with your music in some fashion and you will find people who relate to what you're doing.

Good luck.

Write what you want to write, for whatever reasons please you.

Great!

Welcome, Jaime B, and hope you enjoy yourself here.  Lots of fans here of the composers above...
