Another of my K617 recordings I bought the last week. And a beautiful one to boot.
I have a few interpretations of this work, but this one comes close to the best.

This beautiful gift from Hildegard arrived today in my mailbox. Always been a admirer of this work by Pergolesi, coupled to the very gifted soprano Isabelle Poulenard, it is almost self recommending, well at least for me, that is.
Ensemble Baroque de Nice, conducted by Gilbert Bazzina is a very able group of musicians, that please with their sweet tone. Philippe Cantor (Bass) brings in just the right amount of comical exuberance, well aided by Isabelle Poulenard. She puts in a excellent performance. The whole recording is a delight to listen too, all the comical gadgets are used to the utmost. Without images it takes quite a effort to make this music work, for it needs the stage and a performance we can see. But be that as it may, this performance works for me, by just closing my eyes, and before my eyes emerge all that is needed.
A good recording, front to back image is fine,

Glenn Gould playing his own transcriptions of Wagner orchestral showpieces.

Nice to see that Gould was inspired by Liszt's example  8)

I'm very glad you like this CD, and I agree with your observations. I was also most surprised that the recording quality itself is very good. I was only a little disappointed that the colors on the booklet cover are not as vibrant as on the online catalog. But it is the music that counts, right?  :) I understand the libretto is also available from Arion.

I have been trying and failing to find anything more magical than the Serenade to Music for several years, it's a pointless endeavour...

First spin and so far the performance and sound is magnificent!

A lot of early-ish stereo DG recordings sound good. I remember we talked about this on another thread and it's good to see you finding sonic gold in this set, George. :)
Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

Good morning my friends.

Today the third CD of this wonderful birthday set. For anyone with the slightest interest in Marin Marais's music, this is a set to have, and not to consider. If you have the bones as Bill says, go for it. There's no disappointment here.

Another recording that gives real musical satisfaction, for its of exceptional quality as one may expect from the likes of conductor Olivier Schneebeli. Aided by fine soloists, and Musica Florea as the instrumental accompaniment one has all the ingredients for a feast for your ears. And it is, not a foot set wrong so to say.
