The new erato

Poeme Symphonique for 100 Metronomes by Ligeti. Sooner or later I had to.

Arthur Loesser in Recital on the Marston label. Totally wonderful. Loesser is a very intelligent performer - as his playing, his choice of music, and his occasional talks with the audience show. Love the performance of Moszkowski's decadent waltz in E.

Quite a good recording of these concertos. Hefty and passionate.

Mozart, WA - Symphonies, 21-41 w/ Josef Krips & Concertgebouw Orchestra - 6 CD set from 1972-74; listening to the last 3 discs tonight.  A wonderful 'compact' collection of some great performances; these are 'modern' instruments but the orchestra is obviously 'small' and the strings and winds delightfully evident - might even persuade you to have this box as an 'alternate' to a HIP performance?  Hey, just saying - check out the comments by Jens HERE -  :)

I've seen this cover before... is it just me, or at first glance was it difficult to distinguish whether this was a guy or a girl?

Half of the selections on CD2 came from this original release.  Philips probably should have used the old cover ...

That was a recent find, as were many of Bach's organ works. But this one has quickly risen to the top of my favourites list. :)

I think I shall pop the CD in right now to listen to that work again.

Common Greg, if you can't see at first glance this is a woman, look at her slender body, and for that matter the inkling of a cleavage, than you need to go to the eye doctor. ;D

STRAVINSKY:        Petrushka                   / Boston Symphony Orchestra, Pierre Monteux

Monteux was the creator of Petrushka, in 1911. His interpretation, full of life, seems to follow every detail and episode of the action. But we miss the absence of images: this would be perfect if we were seeing the ballet on stage, not in a concert performance.
Anyway, it is a version with a great seduction.
