Absolutely!  ;) Missed you at the Dopper Requiem premiere at Stadskanaal. We'll report on the event in the concerts thread. Good to see you here!

It was a great regret to me, not being able to join both of you.. I read the review of the concert, and the performance will come to Groningen as I understood. Maybe I will be able to make that.

This afternoon's listening - first misplaced in another thread -  :D

Shostakovich, D. - Symphony No. 4 from the Kitajenko box; WOW, dramatic, dynamic, devastating (and whatever other d-words can be added) - plus, performance 'delayed' nearly 30 yrs after the composition!

Clementi, M. - Piano Sonatas, Vol. 3 w/ Mastroprimiano on fortepiano - these are 3-disc sets @ a great price - just buying them as released -  :D

listener

Höller: Symphonic Fantasy on a theme by Frescobaldi;, Sweelinck Variations
"Keep your hand on the throttle and your eye on the rail as you walk through life's pathway."

Currently listening to CD2, Sonata for Violin and Piano and Dumka for Violin and piano.

Lyrical, exquisite, relaxing albeit heartaching at times, is it any wonder I voted for the Romantic period as my favorite period in music on MN Dave's thread!

Antoine Marchand

Anner Bylsma - 70 Years - Limited Edition
CD3 & CD4:
Beethoven - Complete Sonatas for Pianoforte & Violoncello
Anner Bylsma, violoncello
Jos van Immerseel, fortepiano
Wolf Erichson, producer & recording supervisor
Sony Classical

This is the best version that I know of these works: superbly performed and recorded by a genius as Erichson.  :)

Now playing CD2 from this set ...

I have listened to some excerpts of the Kitajenko box set on JPC and, I would say, it has a superb sound quality. Has been that your impression, Dave:)

I'm not aware that Rousset did Rameau motets (or I am mistaken?) (for Rameau we also have Christie or Herreweghe) and assume you were thinking of F. Couperin's motets
Actually, no, I meant to say Christie instead of Rousset!  But now that Herreweghe has been thrown into the equation... Oh dear!  ???  ;D

Hello Antoine - just have gone through 3 discs and am 'blown away' by the performances & the sound quality - expect to enjoy the rest of this box set; Sarge has also commented on the superb quality of this offering, not sure 'how much' he has experienced.  I also have the same conductor in the Prokofiev Symphony set, which is my favorite.  If one wants a Shosty box of Symphonies and can obtain at a good price, this would be a TOP recommendation from me.  Dave  :)

Now playing CD1 from this set, which arrived early in the week ...

Sergei Prokofiev
Violin Concerto Nos. 1 & 2
Itzhak Perlman
Rozhdestvensky/BBC Philharmonic Orchestra

Perlman is vivid in these concertos, one of the few recordings of his that actually exudes exotic color.  Is it just me, or was Prokofiev really spastic when he wrote these concertos?  I mean he's normally spastic to being with... but what is it with the "duck trying to sing" in the second movement of the 1st v.c.? :D

Yes, but by no means easy. You easily fall into a depression with this music........at least I did.

Not me, but I'm not prone to that kind of thing. I even enjoy (yep) Petterson.
