Judging by some of the "discussions" seen on these fora, I am not so willing to accept those results. ;)

Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

QuoteAs brainpower diminishes in dementia patients who have previously liked classical music, the patients sometimes begin to prefer pop music.

I'll use this one with someone I dislike.

Nevertheless I think having more than one brain is useless if they don't work.

I'm really impressed with the amount of false modesty displayed by our esteemed forumites. Of course there's no link between intelligence and classical music, saying either wise would be elistist and perhaps even discriminatory. Down with reality, the important thing is to make average folks feel good about themselves.

The proof has to be given so far. There's no relation in the sense that it's not so easy to understand in which direction the link goes.
A person with higher QI or intellectual ability may be interested in classical music; that doesn't mean that listening to classical music makes you a more clever individual if you're a nitwit. It would be like saying that reading a lot of books make you more intelligent; but intelligence is not only "know what" and neither only "know how", there are different factors. Knowing a lot of things don't make you smarter, but only more learned.

I've always believed that classical music is the highest form of philosophy, like Beethoven did.

Only in certain composers, I believe it to be true too. Sorry Haydn, your not one of them  :)

People who once listened to classical music exclusively were found leaning towards pop once dementia set in. The logical conclusion is that pop music requires less brain power. Where else would you go from this?

I don't deny this at all. It's rather a thing I've always believed and thought even before.

I have lots of Brains ........ including

Quote...one explanation for individual preferences for classical versus pop music: The former may require more brainpower.

This required a scientific study?

Hector

Hey, but didn't we all know that, anyway?

greg

um...... i'm a classical music fan. Shouldn't that disprove everything?

Some people need convincing. Was it Kurt Vonnegut who said that the big problem with stupid bastards is that they are too dumb to believe there's such a thing as being smart?  ;D
