No wonder your budget deficit is ever increasing.

I think the budget deficit has more to do with the empire-building mentality.  That we have to be the last defender of the world.  Gimme a break.  Let other countries such as Japan and Europe fend for themselves.

Quote from: James on January 01, 2010, 10:10:40 AMa marvellous example of Boulez's ability to think himself into an aesthetic that is miles away from his own.

For more of that quality, listen to his excellent discs of music by Maurice Ravel.  8)

That is the draw for me to purchase them.  Can you re-look at both selections that they show on your link for me and does one need both cds, or does one, I believe on the right, contain all the works.  Thanks!

The pictures are a bit confusing. The cd on the left contains BWV 1001 - 1003, judged from the musical clips. The CD on the right contains BWV 1001 - 1006, if you were to believe the clips, but this makes no sense to me. Probably the CD to the left contains BWV 1004 - 1006, or both contains all the works, but there is no way to confirm this definitively, unless you wait until I recieve my order. I have not ordered but the CD on the left, but I add an order of the CD on the right just now.

Now playing CD1 from this set highly recommended by Elgarian.  The singing is first rate as is the orchestration ...

I remember this getting some run here, or on the old board many moons ago.  Report when you can, Stuart.

Thanks!  I thought it strange.  Well, report when you get them.  A PM if you have the time.  Pricey little buggers, but after the lp listen worth their salt.

Thanks, Stuart.  I already have it.  It seems that the JPC selections that they show are both the same....yes?

For the Accardo/Mutter CD, definitely.

Bill, will do.  My Vivaldi's sacred works before this set are all non-HIP and average 20-25 years old.  For those on Philips LP by Vittorio Negri shown in the following pictures, they are even older.

I have edited the text in my post above (reply 60261), because I made a mistake, confusing left and right. Thinking it over again, I believe, that both the left and right CDs contain all the works. Interesting though, that the left is on stock and that the right is available in the course of 3 - 4 weeks, according to the information on the page. If I am right, I shall eventually receive two identical double Hybrid CDs.

3 down, 4 to go: but I think it's unlikely I'll be able to listen to all 7 Sibelius symphonies in the first 24 hours of 2010...

Think I'll go 1, 3, 4, 2 from here in my quest to catch all 7 on New Year's Day. But, with the Vienna concert on TV and movies to watch with the family, it seems likely this will be the last segment in the marathon.

Listening to Bax 4th - first time for quite a while - for me it seems Bax is more in control of his feelings here and the harmonys are more restrained and the lushness is missing nevertheless a fine symphony especially the dreamy sea scape type second movement  :)

disc 4 from the Busoni box.  Now I can file it and have something else at the top of the 'pending' pile.  Disc includes the Figaro and Faust fantasias, Chopin variations, Bach P&F in e and Schubert Overture in e
