I'm hearing this same concert tonight at Carnegie Hall, and needless to say, very much looking forward.

Cool!  Our local high school wind band played Carnegie on Tuesday and premiered a new piece by hometown composer, Brett Abigaña, currently on the faculty at BU.  Don't suppose you caught that one, Bruce?

No, didn't catch that one, unfortunately.  (Tuesday was my one free night during the week!)

So the Mahler 2 was quite marvelous--one of the best of that piece I've heard in a very long time.  I'll save the comments for the full review, but it really was a very special evening.  I agree with The New York Times this morning: MTT and San Francisco are underrated.  Although that said, I've heard some memorable concerts with them--most notably, Carnegie Hall's opening night in 2008, an all-Bernstein program.

Dandy, Bruce. I don't know how an orchestra that's been so good for so long can still be underrated, so I just chalk it up to the provincialism of a calcified establishment.  ;D
