From what I've heard about it,the new Met Ring, starting with Das Rheingold on opening night on September 27,should be an amazing spectacle, possibly unlike anything we have experienced before in Wagner productions.
It will feature all sorts of ingenious computer-generated images which will enable us to see special effects undreamed of.
It's awfully diffuclt to realize Wagner's stage directions literally, with flying horses etc, but the Robert Lepage production may
be truly revolutionary.  The cast looks promising. Let's just hope poor Jimmy Levine will be able to conduct,or if he can't , a conductor of staure will be available, especially and experienced Wagnerian.
It doesn't appear to be one of those ridiculous Eurotrash productions at all, thank God!

"Wagner's four-opera, sixteen-hour work has remained at the theater-tech frontier, and now Robert Lepage, who directs the Metropolitan Opera's new Ring, is bringing on the virtual magic. As singers move through a stage bathed in infrared light, cameras track the reflective costumes and sensors pick up the voices. The data stream flows to computers that track the humans and envelop them in projected images that breathe with the score. A Rhinemaiden sings underwater, releasing a column of bubbles. As the orchestra accompanies the god Loge with a musical motif of fire, a flaming aura follows him onstage."

It looks and sounds like this will be quite amazing. Wish I could be there in person.

Love the computer back projected images in the Barcelona Ring with Mehta, but............

Did not like the space age costume design and frequent use of mechanical lifts, also overall cast was too overweight......prefer some visual beauty in our characters appearance also

Any names released yet for major parts.......
