About to sit down with this one for the first time. It's a broadcast performance of Beethoven's 4th concerto with Mitropoulos conducting on August 22, 1943. Apparently Hofmann was past his peak at this point, so I am curious to see if I notice this in his performance. It was released on the Marston label and mastered by Ward Marston.

Now finally playing this CD I picked up at the local Borders store a few weeks ago for a first listen ...

A rarity! A Tchaikovsky 5th I've not heard. How do you like it?  How quickly does he take the last movement of the 5th? What is the timing?

A worthy continuation of this wonderful series.

MAHLER:      Kindertotenlieder                / Kathleen Ferrier, VPO, Bruno Walter

It doesn't matter how many times I listened to this version. It is more than an interpretation: for me, this is Kindertotenlieder. When I hear other versions, they always seem artificial, compared to this one. It is as if Ferrier and Walter were creating the work.

Yes, we've got that one, too . . . I have an idea that we gave it a spin, but I have no recollection of it.

I've moved on to some Alfven (5 discs of symphonies and other orchestral works). Well worth hearing - listening now to Symphony No.1 with Jarvi conducting the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic. Excellent performances! And I see they are now on Brilliant, so well worth the price (about 11 pounds in the UK)!!!!!!

Nice, Todd!  Have you heard Chausson's string quartet?  If you enjoy French chamber music, that is a must have, IMO.

What are your thoughts on this? It's in my to-re-listen to pile. I didn't really enjoy my first couple run throughts. I felt that Jarrett was too weak for it, especially when compared to other performances, but I'd really like to hear what you think.
