Today is the 20th anniversary of the pianist Natan Brand's death. For those who don't know about him:

I have been in email contact with his widow over the past week. She has told me that she has some copies of his only studio recording (pictured below.) This is a critically acclaimed CD that is now OOP an extremely hard to find. The piano sound on this CD is absolutely gorgeous and the performances are out of this world. Unfortunately, some of these CDs were also defective, making non-defective copies that more more difficult to find. If you are interested in getting a copy, PM me and I will put you in touch with her. She's very nice and accepts Paypal. She will be checking the CDs before shipping, so they will be opened, but they will be otherwise new.

Here's an image of the CD:

I have this 2-CD set which includes the Sonata, Nocturne and Kreisleriana

I assume they are different performances--but other than that are there any other reasons a non-fanatic fan (myself) should invest in the studio recordings too? (I'm assuming you've heard both.)

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Yes, I have heard both. The studio CD features more refined playing. Great focus, attention to detail and The studio is in much, much better sound too. I actually wasn't a huge fan until I got the studio CD.

I found the Nocturne from the studio Cd on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffPF0u4f7ig

They are very different I think and it's interesting to compare them.

Don't be put off if you found his style in the live Chopin Sonata too . . . (for once -- I can't think of the word)

And it's interesting to compare the Kreislerianas too.

Did anyone see him? I think he played frequently in New York in the early 80s-- I expect he was entertaining  to watch -- lots of swooning and hand waving and stuff like that. No?

I have heard back from Lori Brand, who tells me that the cost will be $15 and she will personally check each copy to make sure it isn't defective. Folks who are interested should PM me and I will out you in touch with her directly.

There must be a reason you deleted your account and re-registered?   ???

That something might have to do with a certain Jamesian post...

I listened to this CD when Tasos stopped by for a visit recently. He and I were quite impressed with the sound and performance on this CD.

Lori Brand told me that they are working on another volume on the Palexa label. I'd love to hear much more from this gifted pianist. Just three CD releases simply isn't enough, especially when two of them share a number of the same performances.

Hello all.
This is my first post.
I am searching this Natan Brand CD (studio recordings for BNL). Can anyone help me?
Best Regards and thank you
