It's in a subscription series called "The great musicians", copyright 1965 Fabbri-Milan, George, so I guess it's not the same as the Vox. Maybe somebody in here knows?
To Valentino,
I know, my reply is three and half years later. I just joined last month. I hope you're still around and doing well. I also bought several of those Great Musicians LPs at a W. H. Smith's Bookstore in Ottawa, Canada, around 1970: The Beethoven 9th Symphony with Jascha Horenstein and Mozart's last Piano Concerto, K595, with Alfred Brendel.
The liner notes were edited by H. C. Robbins Landon. Lots of photos too. Great stuff.

The Waldstein is my favorite of the Beethoven piano sonatas. Several great recordings have been mentioned, but the one at the top of my list has not:

Brautigam (on fortepiano)

Mandryka

Someone put Alexei Lubimov's Waldstein record on symphonyshare.

Grab it while it's there -- it's very good.

You chose well!

How on earth did this ancient thread get resurrected?  Searching for Waldstein recs?

I like Brautigam's playing. I think he should record another set of the sonatas on a modern piano.

That he may well do - to think that he has chosen to record the concertos on a modern piano (w/Parrott conducting).  Speaking for myself, we may eventually get another set of concertos from him, too, on a fortepiano. :)  In any case, that will be a while away at least,  he's yet to record all the variations and dances he's set out in the project.
