Patton is one of the most consistently creative, interesting vocalists in history, in my humble opinion. "The Omen"!

Can you say more about this?

For most people I know, Rock/Metal vocalists are a pretty personal taste. I never liked the actual sound of Mercury's voice.

Of course I see his voice as being one of the best in Rock history. I just never liked it. I feel the same way about Robert Plant.

I think I'm a bit in tune with that, Andy . . . that is part of why I am mighty particular about the Queen albums I listen to.

I almost don't care about Robt Plant's voice, so enthralled is my ear to Jimmy Page's playing. To be sure, I don't listen to Plant at all apart from Led Zeppelin.

I'm that way about Ozzy. I am huge into the guitar playing of Tony Iommi, Randy Rhoads, and Jake E. Lee. And I dig the screeching of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage. But overall I find Ozzy's voice to be extremely weak, monotonal, and irritating.

Other voices that annoy: Eddie Vedder and Axl Rose, who both have Ethel Merman syndrome. :D

I like some of their music (in the case of Vedder, only a couple of tracks); but I can't stand their voices either. Rose sounds to me like nasal, speed freak Brian Johnson.

...Except when he's singing like Ethel Merman. "Where do we go? Where do we go now?"

Sure, they are personal for sure. I just was curious what in particular you didn't like about his voice. I imagine it might be as hard as it would be for me to describe what I like about it.

He certainly has a very good voice. I almost the hard rock voice he used on songs like Brighton Rock. It's just his straight singing voice, it always turned me way off. Just me I guess.

There are vocalists that I like that absolutely drive other people nuts. King Diamond is the best example.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Many singers turn me off right away and there usually is nothing I can do about it.

I first heard Freddie sing via my Dad's old A Night at the Opera 8 track. I was blown away! I think that was the first album that I ever heard. His range, power and versatility raised the bar so high about what a rock singer should be that most others paled in comparision. I feel like Freddie's singing spoiled me rotten. Queen's Greatest Hits was the first album I ever owned and it solidified my admiration and appreciation for Freddie and Queen. they were my first favorite band. Stevie Wonder and Maynard from Tool are the only two other pop/rock singers that I feel are in the same league as Freddie.

Well, Stevie Wonder is just the all around genius-package, the Mozart of R&B (I mean that in the good way). In fact, I would find it hard to argue with anyone that volunteered him as the greatest voice in Pop history.

It says a lot that one of the earliest songs I ever liked was Man on the Silver Mountain.

Stevie Wonder does nothing for me, except for one song from when he was real young.

Now...

The Best of MOUNTAIN

"Blood on the Sun"

You might want to check out the cover of that with Michael Schenker and Leslie West.
