It's Queen's Day in the Netherlands and celebrations are going on under my window. I am now pitting Khatchaturian's grim Second Symphony against a dixieland band... So as you can see - I don't have a life either.

Last night I decided to do a run-through of all the Bachianas Brasileiras as soon as I woke up.  ;D So I've logged on to Naxos Music Library and am starting with the supremely beautiful No 1...

That's a great set right there, Brian. I love it!

Opus106

Well, all right. I'm cancelling the sub-orbital flight that I was about to embark upon just for you, Sarge.

Beethoven - Kempff playing stuff.

Couple of new acquisitions below - purchase stimulated by some discussion in the 'Classical' thread:

Boely, Alexander - Sonatas & Caprices w/ Christine Schornsheim on two different fortepianos (Erards from 1802 & 1808) - Fanfare review quoted HERE!

Merci, Luigi - Bassoon Sonatas w/ Paolo Tognon on bassoon, Roberto Loreggian on harpsichord, et al on cello & tiorba e chitarra - not many chamber discs out there w/ emphasis on bassoon - excellent recording -  :)

Whenever you finish the cycle, you should definitely checkout Robert Duarte's recordings on Marco Polo. All of them are excellent.

Spring is in the air Sarge!

So are spring storms. We just had a downpour which forced me inside.

But spring storms in the wine country of Germany can be lovely.  The current state of the US makes me feel like retiring to a different country down the road ...

Indeed. Very refreshing. And we needed the rain...well, the farmers and vintners did. The jungle surrounding my house is growing just fine despite the lack of rain this spring.

Sarge,

How do you like Newton Classics so far?

I like the performances, and the sound. However, there are a few manufacturing glitches I was warned about (momentary dropouts, etc). Not many, though, and doesn't really bother me.
