It was a great decision, indeed. I purchased it some time ago and it's pure gold. I think my process was very similar to yours. I was amazed by Münchinger's orchestral performances (AoF, Musical Offering, Brandenburgs, Orchestral Suites) and it was mandatory to explore some of his discs with vocal works. I began with the Oster-Oratorium (a canonical version, I'd say) and then ordered the Newton box set. I have not regretted any of those purchases.  :)

Thank you, Antoine. Yes, that is similar to what happened to me.  ;D Good to hear I made the right choice!

My favorite recording of the symphony that I have.......granted I only have two.....

But I generally like everything I have with Tafelmusik

As long as it brings you happiness, you win.

Listened to these last night (it was my first listen to the Mahler & Rieu discs borrowed from the library) -

MONTEVERDI - "Magnificat" from Vespers of 1610
Pro Cantione Antiqua (UK), Mark Brown, Edgar Fleet, Collegium Aureum, Musica Fiata & Hannover Boys Choir/Heinz Hennig
Alto label

MAHLER - Symphony No. 4
Miah Persson - soprano/Budapest Festival Orch./Ivan Fischer
Channel Classics

ANDRE RIEU - "You'll Never Walk Alone" album - Rieu's arrangements of light classics, movie themes, showtunes & opera arias...
Andre Rieu & his Johann Strauss Orch.
Universal Music Australasia

I've been listening to Mahler's 4th symphony as I'll be going to a concert of it this weekend. This recording under Ivan Fischer was excellent, the SACD sound was very clear. Also the Monteverdi Vespers, which I haven't put down since purchasing during the week. To wind down, some arrangements of light classical pieces as well as other things by Dutchman Andre Rieu. I particularly enjoyed his arrangement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata...

First spin of the final disc by Enrico Baiano in my collection - a happy and a sad moment at the same time. I hope he will start recording again for another label soon. Baiano plays a copy after Giuseppe Giusti, Lucca 1693 made by Ugo Casiglia.

Alison Balsom - Music for trumpet and organ

Some nice music, just to relax a bit, while this is difficult with the pictures of Alison Balsom :P. I'm quite a bit into organ music lately.

SCHUMANN:        Carnaval opus 9

Bruno Leonardo Gelber seems to me the best interpreter I heard in this work. Dynamic but elegant phrasing, he conciliates the poetry of Eusebius and the enthusiasm and passion of Florestan.

Nelson Freire gives a very exciting version. But after listening it several times, the abuse of contrasts, the systematic changes of tempo, became a little annoying.

Rubinstein, as always, has a perfect balance. But I wish he was more spontaneous, with more fantasy.

I would select Yuri Egorov as the worst version I heard. It is as if he was illustrating musically a set of cartoons.

Now listening to the 51st disc of the Hyperion Romantic Piano Concerto Series:

As always, excellent quality. The music is quite beautiful (particularly the second movement of the first Taubert concerto). Playing is outstanding.

One of those classic classics.  :)

I was delayed due to technical difficulties >:( but I've finally listened to the Hampson/MTT/SFSO recording of Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde.

I think that Hampson sings his heart out, heartfelt, deep, sad... excellent performance.  Now the San Franscisco Symphony Orchestra are sadly a bit understated, very pretty but not enough passion.
