also...someone needs to say Busoni  ;D

So Luke are you saying Tippett for the list?  And Busoni for the board?  Is that Busoni +2?  And what do you want for +1, and what do you want for -1? :)

Well, well, well ...

Gade instead of Schoenberg.

Oh, so now we're going into the RED in voting against Arnold.

Will the abuse never end for the poor man?

:'(

Now, the fast track vote is also meant to dispense of such "arguments" . If you feel so passionate for a work that a negative vote upsets you so, by all means send it to the upper list right away and keep voting for or against the others. No need for whining.

Oh, I intend to, eventually.  8)

I love love love the PC in G..., but the LH Concerto is surely more important, more original and more consequential. The LH Concerto quite simply reaches places that no other piece does; a dark, frightening and hallucinatory work.

Thank you for that, saved me the trouble of typing something similar but half as succinct.

b) I want the Tippett PC on this list. I think it is one of the very rare post 1950 concerti to do something new, original, beautiful, relevant and finely worked. It is clearly part of the tradition, the 'grand line' of piano concerti, and yet it is contemporary and forward-looking and exploratory too. It's also utterly gorgeous.

I quite agree. I'm taking it you want this fast-tracked to the upper list?

Actually what I find perverse is someone voting against a recognized masterpiece like the Schoenberg and voting for, while an entertaining but ultimately inconsequential work, the Ravel LH Concerto.  His PC in G is the more important work.

It is perverse to use one's personal taste as the guiding principle when voting for or against works, since that truly defeats the purpose, IMO.

It is YOU, mc ukrneal, who are the wacko.

:P
I said my peace and was planning to say nothing furhter on the subject. But now you have attacked me personally, and there is no need for that on a forum such as this.

The fellow pounds the table for Offenbach in his sig, for goodness' sake.  Here, as in his hate vote against the Bartók in the chamber thread, it's that kneejerk suppression of whichever item is least like Haydn ; )
Anything else you'd like to add while you are at it? Might as well get it all out there.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

On the contrary, personal taste is the natural guiding principle given the thread title.

Thanks, in that case I'd like to fast-track Prokofiev Concerto 3  :)

Do - it's a masterpiece. I'm still trying to work out how this thread works, BTW, otherwise I'd have 'fast-tracked it to the list' (whatever that means) when I mentioned it yesterday!
