Never heard Jansons Rach before...must look it up for he is a man who I believe may do a blinding Rachmaninov.  Glad I saw that post.

Meanwhile, from this:

Fireworks and Water Music....eh...all I need now is some Eath and Wind music I guess.  Indeed, is there such a thing as a Symphony to the Elements?

Willoughby earl of Itacarius

English Clarinet Quintets.

This is really a most enjoyable disc, well recorded and performed in 1990. I have not played this much, and that is a pity, for I have much pleasure with it.

Bartok.  When I was 10 I thought he was some kind of Vampire...turns out I got my Bartoks mixed up...if Dracula could write music like this, and have such a sweet woman playing it...well...I would sprout a fang or two myself just to join in.

Yesterday, the final dress rehearsal for Donizetti's Anna Bolena at the Met. Although Donizetti isn't usually my thing, I found it surprisingly moving, and as the title character Anna Netrebko sounded spectacular. Marco Armiliato was the conductor. It's a new production - opening the Met's new season on Monday night - and will probably be a pretty big hit.

That's a splendid recording of the cello suites, I can't imagine anyone playing them better on a modern instrument. I don't own that Kremer but from what I've heard, it sounds excellent. Still, with Mullova's recording, I am in no hurry to get another one.

These are really riveting performances from start to finish. Kyung-Wha Chung has the full measure of this music and Solti's accompaniment is superb.

John,
I have this recording with Rattle. I also have a recording B/W Berg with Solti CSO. On the above disc she is playing both 1 & 2 with Solti. Which one is with cso and which one is with lpo.  I assume the one I have B/W Berg is the same as the one above.  Can you tell me is the one above better than the Rattle?  I happen to like the two I have and was wondering if I need the above disc?
