The Lubimov/Schubert is a good choice IMO.

Just ordered this via Amazon-UK:

My thanks to Karl for the heads up. :)

Do you have the Arrau integral recording from the 60s?

If not, you (or other people) could be interested in this set:

For once being a cheap SOB pays off, it just scraped below £5 so I picked it up.

New release I see? This release has been rumored for some time, though still only available in Italy?

How's the sound?

I don't have it. This is the one I have:

Good sound quality. It has just a slight hiss, especially when you use headphones.

I bought one of those boxes a few months ago. Tremendous bargain. I'm not normally particularly fond of solo piano works, but I remember the impact Brendel made when I first heard him playing, back in around 1980-ish: that astonishing liquid sound, where notes don't just come one after another, but rather, each gives birth to the next as it dies. We had a few of his LPs then (long ago dispatched to the charity shop), of the more famous Beethoven sonatas, and somehow never got to replacing them with CDs until buying this box recently. The wonderfully expressive playing came up as fresh and yet paradoxically, as familiar, as ever, even after so many years.

Just bought:

I've wanting to get this one for quite some time, but have been so preoccupied with so much music. I probably could have purchased the cheaper, reissued Sony version, but honestly, I take value in my classical purchases and I look for quality and Sony are always so damn cheap on their reissues. I'll happily pay a little extra for the original. 8)

Holy shit, the people distributing the music don't do composers many favours.

A pink-tinted photograph of a saggy dock? Poor Delius, no wonder people think he's boring :'(

Well, regardless of what other people think, I think the picture is appropriate as it's more than likely Little standing near a dock in Florida. I'm not sure about the pink tint, but it doesn't bother me. If people find Delius's music boring, then that's prerogative. I've been listening to Delius for years now and he's one of my favorite composers. Nobody sounds anything like him, which is a feat within itself and a lot more than I can say for the all the sound alikes that were coming through the early 20th Century.

Following the suggestions of Velimir and Lethe Dmitriyevna Pettersson in "discoveries of 2011" thread I have ordered this CD:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Alban Berg - Violin Concerto, Lyric Suite & Three Orchestral Pieces
Rebecca Hirsch, Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra, Eri Klas

I listened to the CD on Spotify and it sounded good. Berg may not become one of my top 10 composers but it is good to have at least one CD of music from a Viennese 2nd school composer, don't you think?

I used GMG link to Amazon.co.uk for this purchase. I think I have been a good boy today.  ;D

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Thanks for the compliment but I don't think Berg is THAT hard bit to bite for fans of classical music.  ;)

A very good boy indeed, at the moment I'm listening to Frank Peter Zimmermann's EMI recording of the Berg now, lovely stuff.
