Hello everyone!

I guess I should introduce myself. This is, after all, the introduction thread. ;) My name is Reena and I live in sunny Arizona, USA. I work from home as a jewelry designer. I have two wonderful children and one incredibly spoiled wiener dog.

As for my appearance here at GMG, I must thank Harry for that. Two composers he has introduced me to, are de Victoria and Sibelius, among others that I have yet to explore in depth. Simply breathtaking. I also had a taste of the Ensemble Kolkheti, Songs From Georgia. My appetite has been whet.  :-* I am a music lover, though I am sadly lacking in the classical experience. Thank you Harry for opening my ears and heart to the sumptuous world of these timeless Masters! Now that I am here, I hope to listen and learn from all who, like myself, are moved by beautiful melodies.

I have a wide range (not as wide as I previously imagined :P) of music that is close to my heart. I love anything that I can sing to. Guitar music is my favorite, since I've been singing along with whoever would play for me, since I was a child. I don't claim to be a brilliant singer, but it's all from my heart, as music should be. One of my long time favorite guitarists is Esteban, (check him out here http://www.estebanmusic.com/ ) a New Mexico resident who plays amazing Flamenco music. Mesmerizing....

Well, I sincerely look forward to getting to know you all, and sharing your love of music! I have a lot to learn and much listening to do!

O, you know, I am happy I got you addicted to me, ehhhh I mean classical music. :P Learning and listening, two very important items when listening to music. Let the world of the past and present music open to you.
I am sure you are very welcome on this male dominated forum.

Hello, Reena, and welcome! Since you like guitar music, you might enjoy some of the recordings of Sharon Isbin, a very fine player who does mostly classical but ventures elsewhere now and then. Her recording, Journey to the New World (with Mark O'Connor) won the Grammy last year for "Best Instrumental Soloist (without Orchestra)."

In any case, enjoy your time here.

Welcome aboard, Reena! Glad you like flamenco music! It's incredibly beautiful music. Since you like Spanish music, you may want to check out the music of Manuel de Falla. He's certainly one of the greatest Spanish composers of the 20th Century and a personal favorite of mine. You may also want to checkout out some Latin American composers like Villa-Lobos (in my top 5 favorite composers), Ginastera, Revueltas, and Chavez. These composers have given us an embarrassment of riches. Check these composers out when you have the time. Other favorite composers besides the ones mentioned: Koechlin (pictured in my avatar), Ravel, Bartok, Vaughan Williams, Debussy, Stravinsky, Berg, Szymanowski, Prokofiev, Barber, Shostakovich, and Dutilleux.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time on the forum. There are some great, knowledgeable people here.

Hello Reena, wonderful to meet you here. I'll recommend to you the music of Mahler, in my opinion (and also the opinion of many others here on GMG), his music is some of the most beautiful, powerful and amazing music ever written.

Thank you for joining us, and I hope you enjoy spending time here on this wonderful forum! :)

Thank you for this recommendation! I had a chance to listen to a few songs from Journey to the New World and I indeed like her playing very much! Add Mark O'Connor and it's just icing on the cake! I'll be adding this one to my collection. ;D
