BRITTEN:            A Ceremony of Carols; Rejoice in the Lamb     / Westminster Abbey Choir, Martin Neary

A splendid Choir in beautiful performances of choral works of Britten, from one of his first works, "A Hymn to the Virgin", to the Ceremony of Carols and the cantata (based in a very strange poem) Rejoice in the Lamb.
Some vocal soloists are also superlative, in special Ian Bostridge and Michael Chance in the Cantata "Abraham and Isaac".

Yes Foote is marvellous, When in the States I took a lot of recordings home by this composer.

Willoughby earl of Itacarius

A wonderful set, one which surprised me and delighted me enormously. Not expecting much, but rewarded with plenty. A very fine recording and interpretations that charmed the deuce out of me. Firmly recommended. Be brave, buy! ;D

Yes I saw it, and I am glad this recording has many admires, for if I compare it with other recordings I have this one comes closest to my feelings how this should sound.

I noticed that I also have another disk on my listening pile by this ensemble:

Sergeant Rock

Kuijken conducting Haydn Symphony 103 in E flat

Sarge
the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

I have Kuijken's Symphs 82-92 Sarge... but none of his Londons... do you feel they are of the same high standard?

Arthur Butterworth.
Symphony No. 1, opus 15.

Ruth Gipps.
Symphony No. 2 opus 30.

Munchner Symphoniker, Douglas Bostock.
Recorded 1998.

I already sang my praises about both composers, and about the perfect performances of both works. I also have this recording as a single issue with the original notes, because in the present box there is non. Sound is detailed and a good front to back stage.

Jared

^^^ thanks Q... that's a very interesting little read... the CD will be up for consideration sometime toward the back end of January, along with random works by:

Dufay, Lassus, Desprez, Ockeghem, Sheppard & music during the reign of Mary II...  8)

and judging by both this 'conversation' and your avatar image, I think that musically, you and I would have a lot in common..  ;D

At last!  On my 46th Bithday (today) I have finally managed to negotiate a new broadband provider, better, cheaper, faster, easier to pay.  Looks like I will be here without another major hiatus for some time!  At this moment...

No-one, not even the much lauded recording of Maazel with the VPO, no-one can do it better than Davis to my wee snuffy ears.
