At last!  On my 46th Bithday (today) I have finally managed to negotiate a new broadband provider, better, cheaper, faster, easier to pay.  Looks like I will be here without another major hiatus for some time!  At this moment...

No-one, not even the much lauded recording of Maazel with the VPO, no-one can do it better than Davis to my wee snuffy ears.

John my friend many happy return of this day, and glad you are back :) This being my 17.000 post, lol

Welcome back, John.  And I admire Sir Colin's Sibelius too  8)

I do love Vanska, Ashkenazy, and Bernstein in Sibelius, but Colin Davis's LSO Live cycle is especially fine. It's, without a doubt in my mind, his best of the three cycles he's recorded.

By the way, good to see you back! I hope you stick around for awhile this time.

Ah, yes, Alex Mossolov. Quite possibly one of the most neglected Soviet-era composers. I wish someone would record the complete ballet of The Iron Foundry.

Now playing the following CD, another recent arrival for a first listen ...

Welcome back John! And happy birthday, and Merry Christmas! :D I'm another fan of Sir Colin's Sibelius!

You should throw this Mahler box at him.  Unfortunately, my set is still in its cellophane due to lack of listening time ...

No no no! I am completely with you! Looking at that picture has made me go and listen to the slow movement of no.6! :)

Please do, I'd like to own that set. At the moment, I only own 1,5, and 10 from that set! :D

Is there anything that that doesn't make you do that?! Wait, let me guess: the first movement of the 6th? :D ;)

That set is also available in the form of this (currently) less expensive box, which is what Stewart actually has, if I remember correctly.

I got it at a great price, though it was still more expensive than what this new release is going for ...

What a splendid image.  It has me reaching for Richard Strauss instead.
