A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL, LET THE LIGHT OF THIS WORLD COME INTO YOUR HEART.

This is a wonderful interpretation of the Weinachts Oratorium.

getting my Christmas on:
[asin]B003QLY5II[/asin]
CDs 2 and 3 (BWV Nos.91/121/133 and 57/110/122)

Plans for the rest of the day include my latest buy of Messiah, a double CD of the Tallis Scholars singing Christmas carols and Christmas related liturgical music, and then back to Bach for the Christmas Oratorio.

And then back to work at 6 AM tomorrow to meet the Boxing Day shop-a-thon (which in the US at least has become one of the biggest shopping days of the year--St. Stephen would be so proud!)

1st listen to 1st disk of my 1st Rameau purchase.... really high quality performance and recording of what sounds like very intriguing repertoire:

The Scriabin selections from the Brilliant Classics Sofronitsky box; outstanding stuff, I think particularly in the earlier, more Chopinesque music.

Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 2 In Bb Major, Op. 83

I'm planning to add a bit more Brahms to my listening diet over the next couple of months as I have neglected him a bit over the last year or so.
To this end I have ordered some nice historical recordings of his Symphonies and Requiem which I am looking forward to and will listen to selections from my Brahms collection throughout this week - first up is this this nice set of the Piano Concertos :)

Good to know my set of the PC's is held in high regard :) - I just ordered Jochums Brahms Symphony set a couple of days ago so looking forward to that one!
I know of Clifford Curzon but unfortunately have'nt heard any of his recordings - looks like a nice historical set to own! :)

Now listening to Symphony No. 8, which has a more Berg feel to it than Symphony No. 1, which came before it on this disc. I have no problem digesting this music as the Second Viennese School is almost apart of my musical DNA now. 8)

How many Ring cycles do you own, Ilaria? Please excuse if I've asked you this before. 8) I hope you had a great Christmas too. Did you get any recordings for Christmas?

Thanks John, I had a great time, hope you spent a lovely Chriustmas as well! :)
Of course, I got Prokofiev's Symphonies No.1 & 5 (Karajan & BPO), Shostakovich Symphonies No.5 & 9 (Petrenko & RLPO), Chopin's Etudes (Ashkenazy) and a set box of Dvorak's Symphonies (Kubelik & BPO); plus some scores for the piano.

No problem :) I've got three Ring Cycles, the Karajan, the Solti and the Barenboim; obviously, my absolute favourite is Karajan's recording, what a masterpiece!

Awesome, you got some good stuff. That Dvorak set with Kubelik is very good, but I think, personally speaking of course, I have a slight preference for Kertesz's set on Decca, but Kubelik and Czech music went so well together like cookies and milk. :) Yes, the Karajan Wagner Ring cycle is a masterpiece and my favorite of the four Ring cycles I own.

The two pieces for small orchestra are excellent - well-contrasted in mood, gentle, nocturnal, bucolic and with an easy grace reminicent of what has made RVW a much-loved composer.
